Red face

whoa, Mark!!

I didnt mean to get your blood pressure up there, bud!!

I just suggested an alternate route to fixing it, that's all. If you spend 20 bucks and they find out it's a loose vacuum hose or wire or something silly I think ford ought to reimburse you.

I'm just suggesting that another set of eyes look at it from a different perspective even if it isnt in a ford shop. Maybe someone out there in your town has seen this and knows "yeah, I saw 5 of these in the last 6 mos, all it was is a loose framas". You know what I mean.

Talking

Sorry Karl, I was being a grouch last night.
We have a much larger dealer here in my home town. The problem is that the dealer I bought
mine from always takes sales from these guys by giving MUCH better deals on new cars and trucks. On top of that -- the area rep is the same guy (Jim Dietz). He probably would call ahead and "pre-program" this dealer to my coming.

Thumbs up

JUST TO LET YOU ALL KNOW THE TRUCK IS STILL DOING FINE. IT'S NOW BEEN TWO WEEKS SINCE I GOT IT FROM THE SHOP AND IT HASN'T MISSED A LICK YET.
I WANT TO ENCOURAGE ALL OF YOU TO CALL THE FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE HOTLINE FOR EACH AND EVERY PROBLEM YOU HAVE WITH YOUR TRUCK. NOT ONLY DOE IT GIVE FORD AREAS TO LOOK INTO (PROBLEM AREAS WITH OUR TRUCKS) IT ALSO GIVES YOU SOME LEVERAGE DOWN THE ROAD IF YOUR TRUCK KEEPS GIVING YOU TROUBLE. EVEN IF THEY FIX YOUR TRUCK OR NOT THEY WILL HAVE THE INFORMATION ON FILE. YOU MAY BE ABLE TO GET SOMETHING FIXED AFTER WARRANTY IF YOU HAVE IT DOCUMENTED. ALSO KEEP A LOG SOMEWHERE OF THE DATE AND TIMES YOU CALL OR GO TO THE DEALERS, CALL FORD, OR HAVE YOUR TRUCK LOOKED AT BECAUSE OF PROBLEMS. DOCUMENTATION IS THE KEY WORD HERE. THE MORE YOU HAVE THE BETTER OFF YOU WILL BE. GOOD LUCK AND THANKS

I did buy my repair manual on CD for both my truck and the wife's Windstar. Got them on ebay for a lot less than what Helm charges.

36racin,
The fuel code thing thread was me.
If you press the odometer/trip milage button in, keep it pressed in and start your truck you get the word "test" displayed on the odometer (assuming your odometer is digital). Then you get a gauge sweep (gauges go left all the way and then back)keep pressing and releasing the odometer/trip button and you will cycle through 20 odd codes. The sixth (If I remember correctly) is the fuel one I'm interested in. The number next to the word "fuel" on my reading flickers between 185 to 187. I would like you to try this and tell me what your reading is. I think my dealer richened the gas/air mix and this is why my milage is so bad. My exhaust seem a little more dirtier and is more visable than other trucks. I still have a rough idle too.
I would appreciate yours and anyone elses help.
Crash might be able to tell us what the fuel code should read. I believe there is an acceptable range and I was wondering if mine was in it.
Thank you in advance,
Truckowner (My first name is Mark)

Cool

Gentlemen Merry X-mas
I am reading through this message board and hear people getting upset. I have been through this whole ordeal w/ford about my rough idle and as I said earlier ford will not authorize any rough idle work on my truck. End of Story! All I have to say is I will have to live with this characteristic until I can find a buyer. Then I will buy a Chevy Truck I will never buy a ford product again in my life time.
reason: The way I was treated with this exceptionally rough idling 5.4
#1 Lesson learned: never accept your new vehicle if you are not 100% satisfied with it. Never beleive the words it will go away after break-in.

I will leave you with these famous words: normal characteristic and cannot duplicate.
CHEVY CHEVY CHEVY

Mark, 36racin, and everyone else:

Keep on it, guys (and gals?). there's gotta be a reasonable explaination for this. If Mark's and 36racin's motors have the same symptoms right down to lousy mileage it's probably the same problem, like the egr. Hopefully that's the fix.

With any luck next week I'll join y'all in owning one! 8-) I'll be down in oklahoma where the dlrs deal and they have large selections in small towns in wheat country. Around here the dealers steal and laugh in your face and only have either high-end models or work trucks (prob the best kind!).

I sure hope I dont run into a slapper, leaker, or rough-runner.

You will probaly get a good one -- many more good than bad. If you want a really good deal -- go to where I bought mine --California- Ford Mercury California Mo. Super good people- the sales staff is the owner, his son in law, and one other person SMALL -but super courteous!! -- lets see is mid Missouri on the war from Idaho to Oklahoma? -- well maybe a little side detour to the east. I am still waiting to talk to the area rep. -- seems they all go on vacation during the holidays -- To bad the rough idle does not take a "holiday"

5.4 owners
Let me save you all a lot of pain and time. The new triton engines according to ford have a rough idle characteristic. These are the words of ford motor company. You cannot convince them or prove to them that yours is worse. Been there, done that and won't go back.I have gone further w/this problem then anyone out there. Now everytime I talk to ford or the dealer they automaticlly ask my name and vin number. SHAZAM a big message appears across the screen. **ISSUE CLOSED** NORMAL CHARACTERISTIC ROUGH IDLE FORD WILL NOT AUTHORIZE ANY SERVICE WORK FOR ROUGH IDLE...
This is how your story is going to end. They have a problem and to much money invested to admit they have this petty problem with a few of the 5.4's. Basiclly if you don't like it TO BAD. We are very few to complain and make a differance and they know that. That is why they have a pre-written memo that was sent to all ford customer dealer reps on how to deal w/this rough idle problem. You still don't believe me? Well stick w/ford and have a great life

BIG PROBLEM...everytime i pull up to a stop the idle spped will drop to 400 then rev up to 900-1000 RPM. this has been a problem from 10,000 miles (have 48000 now). been a comedy of errors replacing O2 sensors, mass air flow valve, cleaning carbon deposits. it'll stop for a couple days/week then start up again...i am meeting with the service director this week...to hash it out...any ideas???
