Flexalite 250, rated at 5200 cfm @ 30 Amps. No discernable change in operating temperature--that seems to be a function of the thermostat. (No matter how low I set the thermostatically-controlled fan switch, Op temp seems to be the same as OEM. Haven't towed with it yet, and don't anticipate a load >2000 lb.)

HP gain is quite noticable, (I'd guess at least between 10-15) though not dyno measured. Gas mileage up by 1.5-2.0 mpg.

black magic 150 from flexalite, haven't really noticed power or mileage improvement. But it gets the job done and gives more room in the engine compartment.

premier 720, pioneer 6cd changer, 12 premier sub, premier componets, 2 soso amps

still to come: new spark plug wires, new rims and tires.

Gofish--

how well does the 240 fan mount? I looks about the right size, if you have pics I would appreciated it. Also, what controller do you have for the fan?

Question

Guys,

Okay, I have to ask, what "gains" can be made by going to electric fans? I am assuming that you are removing the factory setup in its place, right?

Yes, what I am asking is a replacement of the stock engine driven fan.

Benefits: increased cooling at idle ( elec fan runs at full speed at idle to WOT, compared to engine fan varies with RPMs), usually increased room under the hood, frees up HP not being engine driven, you can use a manual switch for increased cooling or to turn off when water crossing. Usually with less drag on the engine, you get a little better milage.

How about 2 14" perma-cool units?
Almost 6000cfm for $166 from Summit racing.
Use snap-disc type thermostat attached the the raditator for engine temp and another one for A/C condenser temp.
Have one fan operated by A/C condenser temp and another by egine temp.

Hmmm, after reading the info on the link above and the info at http://www.psm1.com/ I find that the fan is far more efficent at lower speeds. (more cfm per amp)
Also when the A/C is running you only need 25% power on the fans for condenser cooling.
Also a note about 70% of the radiator being covered by the fans.
The $100.00 controller they are trying to sell seems kinda steep but there has to be a cheaper way to have a varible or 2 speed fan control.
Maybe running in series for low and parallel for high?
What do you guys think?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the OEM belt driven fan have some sort of clutch?

I thought they stopped running at higher speeds? In other words, they utilize the wind...

That is exactly what I was just thinking. The OEM fan doesn't spin all the time when your going down the highway. It obvioulsly isn't needed. I would think that the only positive thing about elec. fans, is that you can control them when you want. I'm sure they are very reliable, but electronics are electric, and if something does happen, how do you get your truck cooled when your sitting there?

Even with the fan clutch, they will still spin at highway speeds. The clutch does not totally disengage the fan, but it is not running at the same speed as the engine RPMs either unless the clutch is shot.

For if they break down, that is why you research and buy good quality parts. Like the mark7 fan, moves a lot of air and is factory reliable.
