Post 12 mpg v.s. 20 mpg

If you drive 30,000 miles in three years here are some stats for a 12 mpg vs 20 mpg.
12mpg/20mpg
2500 gallons/1500 gallons

at $1.30/gallon
$3250/$1950

$ per year $ per month $per week
$1083/$650 $90.25/$54 22.56/13.5

Therfore a 5.4 Liter Engine cost less than 9 dollars a week more if you drive 30,000 miles in three years.

Yep interesting, you also assumed 12 for the 5.4L which is really low (like city only), and 20 for the other engine, which would be highway mpg for the 4.6. So your estimate is a worst case..

I get 15.5 mpg (mixed driving) with my 5.4L in a Y2K F250 4x2 5sp 4.10LS.

I'm lucky if I'm cruzin at 13 mpg.......
haven't checked it lately, but I believe it's aroung 11........prolly just the weather......the dealer hooked me up to a computer and said that I was gettin 18......I drive 250km/day, and used to track my milage by the teaspoon, but I bought a ford, and went into severe depression cause of it (just kiddin).......as for the dealers, they swear by "built ford tough" and "quality is #1" so we know where they have their heads shoved..........

jj1,

The 2000 5.4s are getting better MPGs than the 97-99's. Went from 13 city to 15-17 city and 20-22 highway.

Welcome aboard, jj1. Along with BigJohn and me, that makes three members from the Ottawa area for sure. Buy an "f150online" sticker and we may see each other on the street somewhere. If you see me, wave me over and we can talk. What colour's your truck?

Black 2000 SC XLT short-box. 4.2 V-6, 5-speed, 3.55 Limited Slip. Side steps, CD, remote entry, FORD box liner. Add-ons: Older Windstar driver's side wiper blade (with the air scoop, because I don't slow down when it rains), back-up beeper, "f150online.com" sticker and snazzy Tweetie Bird floor mats.

My third F-series: '73 F-100, '98 F-150 and '00 F-150. Great trucks!
