well I got the expedition out on a trip for this thanksgiving and cook in about 2300 miles from california to colorado and back. I was expecting some aroun d 13 to 15 miles per gallon an accident getting about 23 on the freeway . I am very very very pleased with how this thing turned out I do you need to finish some electronics and computer tuning though . so far I've just been clearing the fall codes at my computer reads. I was thinking about going with sct tuner but I'm trying to figure out what would be the best and the most reasonable price wise. what is up everybody use for tuning around here any suggestions would be great

no I didn't get to use the v 10 oil cooler, it won't fit with the v 8 motor mounts I was thinking about customizing it to use flexible line so I would work but that might be something for the future . what I ended up using was the adapter from the v8

wow I just read my above post, and I see that my phone does not work well in voice recognition mode. I promise you I can actually spell and use grammer correctly.

Anyways, I am trying to figure out what program and reader works best for the tuning of this thing. I need something that is able to go deep into the computer so I can take things out, like emissions, and other odds and ends. I looked into SCT, but I need the software and the tuner. Just wanted to shop around a bit before I pull the trigger.

Any help would be great
Travis

I was wondering if you could elaborate on what pin out changes you made and did you do it at the computer plug or the square junction plug at the motor or both. And did you use the 70w and tcase for the expedition or did you use the superduty 4r100 and tcase? Thanks for the info it looks like you did a good job on yours! I am in the process of doing a 2002 f150 with a 2002 v10 trans and tcase.

I made all of my pinout changes on the computer plug. Just about everything on my original v8 setup was already in the right location, it was just a matter of moving around a few other pins to match up with what the v10 needed. Plus you will have to add in a couple more wires and pins for the additional cylinders (spark and fuel)

I will look and see if I have my notes, but basically I took the v10 pinout, and the v8 pinout for the ECU, and moved the v8 pins to match up with where the v10 ECU needed them. I think that there is a post a while back in the thread with the pinout, but if not, I will scan in my notes tonight and post them up.

As far as the trans, I kept the original expedition transmission. I am now regreting it, because that transmission has about 180k on it, and second is really starting to slip. I am going to swap it here soon for a jasper setup, but am debating if I should swap over to the 4r100.

Does anyone know if it witll be a major PITA to swap the 4r100 in?

The 4R100 was used in the 4x4 Expeditions, of course they also had a trans case so, not sure about crossmemebrs and so forth.

I just pulled the 70w out and noticed that the frame has all the holes to move the crossmember back and move the torsion bars back to accomodate the longer trans, of coarse i wont know for sure until i get the new drivetrain in but im 99 percent certain thats what the holes are for. and of coarse you will need the longer torsion bars.

How did you get the 70w to work off of the v10 computer? seems like the v10 computer would only run a 4r100. I have some factory wiring manuals but some of the pinouts are vague if you have some pinout diagrams that would cool i would like to see them. i will be starting the wiring monday i think.

I'm wondering which tranny I have then. My exotic was an xlt 4x4 5.4 with everything possible under the Eddie haier version. Hate to be the join with these trannies but how do I tell which is which. Originally I was under the assumption I had the 4r100, but now I'm all over the place.

I thought the 4X4 Expi with a 5.4 came with the 4R100 tranny.
I think the only ones with a 4R70 are the 4.6s

yes they are supposed to but that doesn't mean anything. My 7700 came with a 4r70 from factory

well either way, When I did all my wiring, I set it up for the 4r100 because that's originally what i presumed came in the 5.4 expidition. Anywho, I'll look into it more. Is the pan bolts the easiest way to tell.

Now for the other topic. I was originally going to start tuning with an SCT tuner and also buy their software and do some custom tuning. I came to the realization that I dont want to have to do my tuning through a handheld tuner, and am now deciding to go with Tweecer.

It seems to be one of the better choices, and although is expensive, seems to have a better product/tech support and backround info. Also, this is the same type of programing that i work with on the Navy's airplanes.

Anyways, what are everyones thoughts on the Tweecer RT and who all uses it.

Give me a heads up on what all you guys think, and also, if I get good at the Tweecer programing, I might move into doing custom tunes myself to help out in the forums.
