Motor swap in progress...4.6L is OUT!!!
disconnecting the battery wont do anything...Ive had it on and off several times when swapping parts and stuff...Yes I have all the correct parts to make PATS happy but who knows...maybe there is something else in there messing with the starter interupt like you were saying, I personally cant think of anything else but I am def going to try the cluster reset you posted and try to triple check all grounds and stuff
well I just fried something! decided to get the battery checked and it failed even though it was showing ok voltage with my meter...I got a new one for free and put it in...also found a few connections that were not plugged in as well. put the new battery in still got the sweeping gauges, however it slowly started to crank...until it started smoking like crazy! I stopped and ran over to try to disconnect the battery but had to find the ratchet and it was probably left on for 30 sec atleast and it definetly burned something up between the battery and the starter, it smoked a lot! I have to finish my physics lab so I cant mess with it tonight or atleast until I finish my lab but if that tells you guys anything please let me know!
Sounds like you hooked things up wrong. And finding things disconnect, well ? Who knows what you did or didn't do. Go over all work. When I told you to pull the PCM fuse, I wasn't joking. If you want help , you have to listen.
Ya I think Im going to take a day away from it and focus on school...Im going try to make a list of all the connections / grounds front to back. also going to pull the old harness back out and go over it making sure everything on that one has a corresponding plug on the the harness in the truck and that it is connected in the truck, that is how we found the unhooked connections before...I really thought we had it complete but now Im second guessing myself, this is my biggest weak point and I want to wait for my friend who understands the whole electrical system much better than I do. Thanks for the help, and Im going to try to start from scratch and see what we come up with.
also going to try to get another truck over here to compare against as well.

yes I will def get one up but I wont be able to until tonight after work...ya I thought we had the wiring dialed but honestly after I found those connections not hooked up I really want to go through the whole harness, I am pretty good doing the physical swap but the electronics and stuff is a little over my head...I think we probably went a little too fast when we put the harness in.
I did try it once more last night with a ground cable going directly from the starter to the neg terminal of the battery thinking that would give me a for sure ground but it started to smoke again so I quickly disconnected it but surprisingly everything still works. I really want to figure out the gauge sweep thing first since we know that is not right. At this point I dont think its PATS I think I have something hooked up wrong and / or still missing something.

The truck is a 2002 2wd xlt supercab with a 4.6L (vin W I believe) and 4r70w. Keep in mind I'm using pretty much all the wiring out of the donor though...it was a 2000 xlt 2wd with 5.4 and 4r100.
That doesn't sound good, mixing it up like that. It may be hard to figure this one out. What's smoking ?
And the 5.4 and 4r100 was probably not original to the 00 2wd xlt. If not, who knows which harness they used when they swapped.
I think it lies somewhere near the battery, starter... something isnt right.
