Just as an update, I called sparkplugs.com on the .054/.045" gap issue. They said the .054" was incorrect, Champion sent out a correction last week and the site now reads .045" recommended gap. That should solve a lot of the rough idling.

I really wanted to put this plug issue to bed, but. . .

While I was waiting for my Brisk plugs to arrive (so that I could get rid of these POS Champions), ANOTHER plug ceramic broke and caused significant misfire - it was bad enough that I did not want to even drive it. I strongly recommend that no one install these Champions.

On the lighter side, I received the Brisk Silver Racing plugs and did the install in a little over an hour. The truck now runs awesome. It is ironic that the Brisk plugs are less expensive than the Champions.

Champion should go back to thier old priceing model of $0.99 per plug (but I don't think they are even worth that).

Get the Brisk or the updated Motorcraft and forget these lawnmower plugs.

It's been a 1 week and about 150 miles and so far my Champions are running perfect. Guess well wait and see what happens.

I guess I need to pull at least one plug now to see if the tech gapped them down to the .045....damnit.

I just had the Brisk plugs installed in mine. The mechanic said to stay clear of the champion plugs because they don't do so good in our trucks. In the same breath he said not to ever use Bosch plugs in Ford's either

What is the updated Motorcraft plugs... are they a one piece plug?

No one piece from the Motorcraft guys yet, from what people have posted on here it is just a different heat range apparently.

I don't have a problem with the Champions....at least not yet. But it seems everyone is quick to bash the Champions and it looks like only me and DVD_FX4 have actually tried them. Mine runs good and his doesn't, go figure.

hey DVD_FX4 how did you gap yours? Did you by chance pry on the ground strap with one of those gapping tools wedged between the strap and the electrode? If you did you might have damage the electrode, they look like they would be very easy to damage.

Hotter plug = better combustion = less carbon buildup = easier to remove

Well I talked to the service department and apparently they gapped mine down to the .045. They said they always follow what the service manual says for the truck and not what the plug manufacture states. I'm not 100% convinced so I might go ahead and pull one of the plugs just to make sure. Since the more miles would probably increase the gap more and start to run like crap.

now at 200 miles on the champs and still running great.
