Built,

I run a 160° thermostat in summer and 180° when the cold weather starts. I just put in the 180° last week. The 160° is a Hypertech and the 180° is from a Lightning. Just make sure that yours is at the very most a 180°. I am running 33's with 3.55s and I can break them loose at 2500 rpm in first on dry pavement. I would not go more than the equivalent of 4.10s and the diameter of a Lightning tire. What ever that is, 29" I think.

I guess if your swap turns out like built's, then you won't be able to tell whether you're driving on ice or the road!

Your Lightning 5.4 will probably turn your 8.8 in to hamburger first

I agree....

4.10's are girly gears for guys with no power.

You build power to go faster, taller gears go faster but you have to have teh power to move them (you now do). You would see alot faster 1/4 mile times both from traction, so you'll be able to be WOT using all of your power alot sooner and with the higher top speed you'll be moving faster... alot sooner. If you had ALOT taller gears. Like I said earlier you have way over powered those sissy gears. Your in with the big boys now. Get some man gears!

Great for rock crawling, crap for driving on the road. You might beat me 0-60 but then your toped out in OD, where I have just reached the top of second, and still have 2 more gears to go...... C-ya!

1/4 mile youd hit top speed 1/2 way down the track and have a 15 second run. That would suck....

The GT500's are faster in the 1/4 with 4.10 gears than they are stock. It keeps the motor in the power band instead of just having to shift a second or so from the finish line.

I jokingly said in a previous post that you might be in the sub 3.00 range..... but looking at those videos and hearing that.... then you honestly might need numericlaly lower than 3.00......
DANG DUDE!!!!!!

What I would do, I'd sit down and run the numbers myself, then talk to a race shop, see what they say.... and see if you could rent borrow the 3 potentals that are most likely to get you the fastest times...... if not tehn buy them and sell the ones that you dont use..... make 3 passes, swap them out, make 3 more passes, swap them out, 3 more passes. Then average all 3 passes froim each one. It can easily be done in a single day.

I've heard it said many times from shops builders and drivers all. Improper gearing, lack of gear planing is the #1 largest mistake made by amateurs.

You want it right on the verge, the razors edge, of breaking traction at WOT. If your breaking at 1/4 throtle, then your off big time.

that is true it is a delicate balancing act..... although with 4.00's they wouldn't be shifting at the finish either and would be moving faster. So could shave 1/2 second off.

No way in hell I would take those things out either...youll just be that much more quicker off the line, all you need to do is hook up and your golden.

You have any traction bars on that thing? Biggest factor is how good you can control your right foot...

I wouldnt loose them either, I think most here are forgetting that 4.10's on 33's are like running 3.55's

think about it the trucks have a 3 speed with OD and or TC lock. the GT500 has a 6 speed. with close ratio gears. gear swap on manuals and automatics vary with the gear ratio already given. and something as heavy as a Gt500 needs a 4.10 or more to get it out of the hole

Ya no way i would get rid of the 4.10's either!! That is the perfect combo for 33's. Like Bartak said if you can find the right tire to hook up your set. I think your days of running an AT tire are over if you want to hook up
Get some good drag tires for the track and burn your street tires up
