After 2.5 hours of reading this entire thread form start to finish, I feel like I know most of you guys! lol

Even though your truck has been a PITA, it's always nice to feel a little light-headed with pride when you take down a 5.0 with a motor you built yourself. Blood, sweat, and tears are not only the payment but the reward also!

Great video, "Let's go to the mall!" Hell yea! Funny stuff! I showed that to my wife so she understands a little better why you have to push the limits or else you never know what is accomplishable <- is that a word?

Rock on Neil!

P.S. All the comments about gas, canuks, yanks - It's 2006, move on! We are all an international race now (as testament to this forum)!

Bullllllchit. You might be a UN one worlder but I'm an American.

Good natured ribbing is all in good fun and the occasional barb keeps it interesting, I don't think anyone here is going to lead and armed charge on anyone else, canucs or otherwise.

Hey Neal, just wondering what was going on with your truck. Awesome build up! You inspire the rest of us poor sorry saps! Read almost this whole thread (over the course of a couple days) and I'm really bummed...no dyno or track times. Come on man we gotta have some "closure" here! What I really want is some good video of your truck w/the new engine so I can hear it roar. Awesome project!

HI!... Sorry guys, just too busy currently. Work is crazy right now. Been working between 60-70 hours a week and sleeping on Sundays. I have not really done much to the truck lately besides normal care. Been S/R every once and awhile and cleaning house 99% of the time. Trucks running good, just still need to get a dyno tune done and I still have the problem when I run the GRANETELLI cops. Forward clutch is starting to let go in my 6 year old built 4R70-W so it will be time for a rebuild in the next few weeks.

Neal,

I just read this whole post.

Anyway I want to thank you for this post. It's been an eye opener that's helping me with my build currently underway. (800hp Direct port N02)

I have two questions for you.

1) What is the specific product you used to create a texture on your dash / guages?

2) What's the problem with your Gran. COPs?

Regards, Rich

HI!... RICH :

I can't remember the part # but the texture spray was made by DuPONT and was designed for putting a texture on plastic interior parts. Make sure you use a adheision promoter before texturing or painting the dash.

As for the GRAN cops.........

On my truck they creat so much current , 60,000volts that they are eith backsurging voltage back to my PCM or they are creating a large amount of electrical interference that my truck shut off, not stalls SHUTS OFF. PCM goes into a SAFE MODE and cuts all power. Havn't figured out the solution to that problem yet.

when the COP fires.. what is not used it sent to the PCM and monitored. since its getting more than stock values in return after the fire... it goes into safe mode.. dad also said. that u are likely gettin high EMI levels from the coil .. try sheilding the wiring and shelding the COP. because the interference is possibly causing the crank and cam sensor to read improperly.

may be ghetto.. but u could do a voltage step down on the ignition system so that the coil wont fire as hard but that would be a PITA to wire up resistors.. or just wrap the coils in aluminum foil. go back to stock coils so its drivable. or sheild the PCM and crank/cam sensor.. its worth a shot but aluminum foil will work.

HI!... Well I gave up on the coils. There probably in the garbage somewhere around here.

Have other problems to deal with right now. Took tranny out last SUNDAY to get forward clutch fixed and well, as usual, everything turned to ***** as always.............

Basically the whole tranny is shot except my P.I converter, thank god!!!!! O/D band was 98% gone, reverse drum was destroyed, pump gears were scored, clutches were all but gone and a few gears in the planetary were chipped and scored. Just found out today the case might be cracked and is terribly worn in a few machined spots. GARY SR. my tranny builder built this tranny 6 years, and 200,000kms ago. I think it held up pretty well with the tons of abuse I've put it through over that period of time. There were really no signs of anything wrong until 1ST gear started having a 4 second delay after you put it into gear from reverse or park. Well now GARY's going to build it to hold at least 600RWH.P so we'll see how that goes. Basically he's building me a whole new tranny from scratch, but currently are awaiting some spiecal custom ordered parts. Hope to be back up and running by Monday night.

Thanks Neal,

I'm curious as to why none of us Lightning guys are seeing the COP issue?
