Ecoboost Owners Reports
just turned 1000 miles. reset the instant mpg and drove the truck yesterday 15 miles on a flat road between 30 and 35, taking it easy. when i got back the instant mpg was at 25 mpg. was bouncing between 4th and 5th gear. no red lites, so no stopping.
its an ecoboost screw lariat with the factory off road tires and 373 rear end.

I am honestly more than a little dissapointed in the fuel ecomomy, if I were to do it again I would buy a 2010 GMC with a Duramax.
This is a FX4 (3.73, Crew Cab, 4X4)
From today- Towing 5.5k 15x8 foot enclosed trailer over I-80 avg 75-80 MPH with a 40-45MPH head wind. This was after 75 miles out of Cheyenne.
I would get about 11-13 MPG in the same conditions with my 2001 Powerstroke F250 Crew Cab 4x4 FYI.
Yes that's 6.5 MPG it came out to about 8.5 after 475 miles of I-80.

Ok first post in a long while..Got TOO used to driving my diesels..Took a little while to get used to the ECO...
2011 Lariat SCREW, with 3.55's and 20" with limited production TUXEDO black paint..
2000 miles on it...I get 20mpg regularly, have to keep it under 65mph though + I have ideal fuel economy route..
I would bet I could pull down easy 23-24mpg on a highway trip..
This winter, I am going to pack it up and do some highway only road trip and see what it will get for ideal mileage..
It runs and have started modding with a bed cover and full cooler screens, both for the IC and the radiator...
I get 500 MPT..

I'm not surprised that your mileage is that bad under those conditions - doing 70 mph at that altitude with that kind of headwind? Any turbocharged gas engine will suck the fuel when under constant boost.
I have another general comment about my SCREW..
I wanted a F250 SD 6.7, as I have a 7.3 and a 6L now..
I am so glad I got the F150, its more comfortable, rides better, gets better fuel economy, quieter, faster, more options, and for the kicker.... was $20000 cheaper...
Mine is a 2WD, this tank I am at 20.8 at half tank with 250 miles on the tank..
If you keep your foot out of it it will net you 20mpg..
I really wanted the 3.15 and would have been able to get another mpg out of it with that setup, but the wife wanted the 20"s cause it rode so much better then with the 18"s...

Because I could get the GMC for about 3-5 more than my F150. The f250 is an easy 10-15 more.
Recent trip from Homer to Anchorage, AK. Better mileage than my 2005 F350 King Ranch 6.0 SCrew 4x4 8' bed, by about 3mpg.
2011 F150 Ecoboost Platinum SCrew Tuxedo Black 4x4 6.5' bed, 3.73, not towing anything

If I was regularly towing a 5.5k lbs trailer in those conditions, I would probably have purchased a superduty. With a 40-45 mph head wind there is a lot of drag on that truck/trailer. I would not be surprised if the "effective" weight of the trailer exceeded the max tow rating for the truck. If there was no wind you would have to drive between 115-125 mph to obtain the same amount of wind resistance.
On a side note I think a lot of people will purchase the ecoboost in lieu of a superduty when they should really be in a superduty with the type and amount of towing they do.
600 miles on my truck so far, and I'm averaging 16.5 mpg, 50/50 mix city-highway. Not fantastic, but still 3 mpg better avg than my 04 5.4 was getting recently.
Sort of.... With radio off and windows down, at least in my experience. This is by far the most quiet vehicle I've ever owned. You can hear the turbos whistle if you're driving between objects and the sound bounces off..... or if you put your foot thru the floor. In normal driving I can't really hear it much at all.

just rolled over the 1000km mark and now starting to have a little fun with it. Man this truck can haul off the line!! Haven't really cared too much about milage yet, but next week going on a 3300 km road trip (Whitehorse to Prince George) so I should get it figured then... I'll update milage after the trip
Great thread...thanks folks. New member here- I'm in the market for a new F150 Ecoboost and am doing as much research as I can prior to buying. It's been a hard decision....I was always told never to buy a revised vehicle / new engine the first year out- that you should wait for the bugs to get worked out. I like what I have heard / read about the 3.5 Ecoboost- Kind of kicking myself for not buying a 5.4L last year when the prices were a little better. Ford has their employee pricing event on right now, so I'll go in an see what the 3.5 XLTs are running this month. Still debating a bit between the Dodge 5.7 and the new Ecoboost Ford....it sounds great, but is it too good to be true?

All I can tell you is the absolutely the most fun truck I have ever owned. Not many times you can say that about a truck. Unloaded (wich is about 80% of the time) I get great mileage and am very happy with it. If you tow constantly then your only choice is a diesel---don't kid yourself
Don't even consider a 5.7 anything (Toyota, Dodge whatever) both the Eco and the 5.0 mop the floor with it. There's a reason Ford is #1- and this is coming from a DIE HARD Chevy man who finally saw the light
