Could be Ford's choice of shock absorbers.

Some friends of mine have made the same suggestion... I'll head over to the suspension forum... That's probably my solution.

Got back Friday, bought it 2 weeks ago with 9 miles and now have 1945 miles.

Average so far is 12.9MPG 1500 of those miles is towing a 6x12 foot trailer.

I did however notice yesterday that my driver's side of the motor is ticking at idle, this is not injector noise something else. I am going to drop it off at the dealer to see what the deal is.

One thing I noticed on this truck that was confirmed by another user, the cold start map for the truck is pig rich, I can actually see black smoke from my tail pipe when my truck first starts.

This a 157" Wheel base, FX4 3.73

From your owners manual...

Drive your new vehicle at least 1,000 miles (1,600 km) before towing a
trailer. For more detailed information about towing a trailer

I think you'll find that the ticking noise is the injector pump, which is mounted on the driver's side valve cover towards the rear of the engine. It has a foam rubber sound dampener over it, which is just enough to prevent you from hearing it ticking from inside the cab with the hood closed.

The injector pump is needed because it's a direct-injection engine -- more pressure is needed to spray the fuel into a cylinder under compression, than is needed to spray into an intake manifold port on a non-DI engine.

I have that same shudder. It kind of reminds me of the feel of towing a trailer over a bump. I've watched and it appears to be the bed of the truck, so how to control it, I don't know.

I think you are correct, I didn't notice it at first. I am going to take it in anyway just to double check. I thought it sounded like an evap purge solenoid type sound.

Thanks for the reply

Thanks for the advise, good thing it's my truck. I have a 100k bumper to bumper so I am not too worried.

I was towing a light trailer, I am not trying to max the thing out. I also changed the oil at 1,000 miles just to be safe.

You're welcome -- can't hurt to take it in and get confirmation! It took a little while to figure out what the heck that thing was -- the tipoff was the fuel lines running to and from it. But it's definitely what makes the ticking sound; that's super-obvious once that foam rubber sound absorber cover is off.

I guess my point was that if you can't follow simple instructions why should ford warranty anything?

Just to update I took pictures of the trip meter when I filled up yesterday. The first picture of Trip A is what I got out of the last tank before I filled up. The second picture is the Trip B that has not been reset since i drove off the dealership lot. Also this is with me driving with sense and not flooring it and I normally keep it around 60-65

Gdadds - you're getting exceptional mileage. I have a xlt screw 3.55 EB and get an all around average of about 17.5mpg. This is in the city, but not rush hour traffic. I suspect that if I were driving 60-65 without traffic around me I'd be closer to the mpg you're getting, but I'm happy either way.

Edit: Worth noting that I have a about 2,200 miles on the truck now.

I definitely am working to get it. I watch the green meter the whole way. It helps with the highway, not freeway speeds that I travel everyday. 17.5 is great for city driving. I hate seeing the green meter go way down every time I stop and have to accelerate. When gas prices go back to normal I wont pay as much attention to it.
