This could have been bad!!!
for those of you who havent heard the story... i have an 08 f150 XL 4.2L V6 reg cab short bed 2wd 5 speed with a K&N cold air intake. my friend has an 04 chevy silverado reg cab shortbed 2wd with the 4.8L V8 and an auto. we have ridden in each other's trucks and we both think the other one's truck is quicker. his truck spins tire VERY easily with 295hp and mine almost wont spin unless you rev it up and drop it and the 4.2L is rated @ 202hp. mine is maybe 210-215 with the intake. we have raced from a 45-50mph roll with mine in 3rd. he counted and we took off. i beat him once, he beat me twice but it was a lot closer than we thought it would be.
well we are going to go to a drag strip this summer to settle this but today i was coming home from him and I visiting his sister(childhood friends) and we were on a two lane road about 11pm. we came up to a red light and i pulled beside him and we looked at each other and both nodded for a race. luckily i always scan the area for cops and while i was looking, i looked in my drivers side mirror and noticed what i thought were crown victoria headlights. so i looked at my friend and started shaking my head NO and pointed backwards
. light turned green and we drove like normal and went the speed limit. well then comes the car going faster than me and comes up beside me. sure enough it had black steel rims and an extra antenna on the trunk. he was only 2 cars behind my friend's truck and would have seen the whole thing. it could have been bad. i followed my friend on his route to his house and he pulled in a gas station because he saw me still behind him where normally i keep going. so i told him it was a cop and he was like "holy **** that coulda been bad". then he was thanking me almost like
.luckily i know a lot of vehicles and have learned to identify them by their headlights and taillights. sure it could have been a early 90s thunderbird but the lenses were to clear like the new vehicles are.
funny thing also is on the way there i was behind a grand prix GTP which was white with blue racing stripes and said supercharged daytona 500 on the back. he kept looking at my halos in his side mirror and we were going like 45mph, well outta nowhere he just punches it. i think he thought mine was a lightning or a harley edition. i didnt even try to catch him because by the time i noticed he was racing, he was too far ahead. i would have had to downshift to 3rd then get on it. i would have tried and failed if we were at a redlight but i had to turn off before one came so now im hoping i'll come across another one lol. and my truck is not really fast so i definitely woulda lost. i clocked mine at 0-60 in 9.58 seconds. need to work on my launch off the line. i think i can maybe get 9-9.3 with a very good launch. plus it was raining and there were some curves so i was a little nervous about REALLY trying.

definitely not. lol mine is limited at 100, i dont know about my friends truck but most trucks are no match for pretty much all cop cars for speed and acceleration. plus we were in the city. around here cops have crown vics, impalas, intepids(best chance to get away from), and my dad is a cop where they would have radioed ahead to and he was on duty too. and the department he works for and the next borough over both have charger R/Ts which i would have a snowflakes chance it hell to get away from. my dad's chief picked it up from pittsburgh and drove the 100miles back and tried it out. he got it to 145 and still had plenty of pedal left. if i still had my trans am i coulda got away but he would have known it was me.
besides i dont think you know how fast crown vics are. some years were wicked fast for a full sized car. hell my dad used to have a 94 non interceptor crown vic and it would have been able to stay with me. my bro is a cop too and said he had one of his crown vics to 150 which i think is bs. i have seen them get 140 which is still too fast for a car that big. my dads 94 i up to maybe 120. speedo only went to 85. i had the speedo on the R for reverse. there was no pin to stop it.

no way, i'd trust my speedometer over a gps. in my vehicles the speedo always accelerates smoothly and you can tell where the power curve is and when the power is dropping off. i think the GPSs are inaccurate. the reason for that is my friend had one and we were sitting in his driveway and it was still telling him he needed to go 25ft and to turn left. if you are sitting in his driveway you are 5 ft from the house and also it is on the right side of the car so it should have been a right turn. i think they are good for directions if you dont know where you are going but other than that...i cant think of a reason to listen to that stupid woman's voice on there every 20 seconds. but one day my friend downloaded ozzy osbournes voice to replace her. that was funny for a little bit but it still got old. it says "You have reached your f@$%ing destination!"
one of us could have lol because the other one would be sitting on the side of the road with a cop behind him

How does that story have anything to do with a GPS judging speed?
X2 on what Raptor said
Lucky save. Thats why you go out to the country side. Used to back when I had my Trans Am, and I live out here now so now and once in awhile my friends and I will race. My 7.2 0 - 60 helps me alot with other trucks, I always win off the line and in the long run.
yeah i guess i forgot to put that part in lol, his speedo would say 55mph and the rpms would stay the same but the gps was changing by up to 4mph all the time and giving him a different arrival time with it. maybe it was just his gps? i dont know but i still trust my speedo over those for now. i know my 96 trans am was right on the money at 118 because thats where the speed limiter was and i met the guy after i found that out and he said the place that put on the tires lowered the speed limiter to 118 for the lower rated tires than the stock ones. also if i may ask a stupid question, how are they inaccurate? its all computer controlled and read isnt it? so why would 60mph be ok but 100 not ok?
yeah i have raced in the country a bunch of times, only a few bad things tho. 1-animals, dont have to worry about a deer in the city. 2-roads sometimes suck, bumpy as hell. i usually go down the road, look for cops then race the way back so the only cops you have to worry about are if they turned on your road during the time you were turning around to race. what year trans am did you have? i had a 96 trans am and a 89 firebird but the 89 was a V6 2.8L horribly slow at 10.1 0-60 rating. mine was maybe 12 seconds. my 96 was rated at 5.6 seconds, i clocked it at 5.85 with 70k on the clock.
