You are very correct I put a 98 transmission in a 97 and had a shift sensor trigger on my dash I didn't get to it in time or whatever and it ended up screwing up the transmission shifted very violently from second to third unless you let off the accelerator now I'm in the yard right now putting the original transmission back in

No. Incompatible without taking the transmission apart to swap the output shaft and tailhousing. Transfer case has nothing to do with it. Also, if the 97 is a V6 and the 05 is a V8 the bellhousing patterns are different. You can't use anything newer than 03.
