Why lift a 2 wheel drive?
It i am not mistaken most pro prerunners are 4x2
4x2 is more for racing street or dirt i feel
4x4 is more for mud/trails/hills... nothing fast but hard
4x4 and 4x2 both have there goods and bads but i stay 4x4
I would love to have a 4x2 prerunner tho

But I would be curious to know this from everyone who has a 2WD F150, lifted or not...
Will your next truck be 4WD and if not would you still buy and lift another 2WD?
just curious[/QUOTE]
good point. i too (living in ohio-GO BUCKEYES) drive in deep snow a lot and dont want to deal with getting stuck or not being able to go where i need to.

why lift a 4x2?
Depends on what type of offroading you plan on doing. I have a lifted 4x2 f1, a 4x2 explorer mild prerunner, and have had a 4x4 bronco. Living in southern CA and answering Back in Black's question i would not get another 4x4 because its unnecessary for what i do with my trucks.
Having 4x4 is nice but a lot more costly when it comes to building a desert truck (if thats what your into) and that is why the vast majority use a 4x2 platform
For me, i lifted the f1 for bigger tires: handles bumps better in the sand which is the only place i offroad, and also doesn't get stuck like i would with the stock pizza cutters. I have been offroad with this truck both stock and lifted and it performs much better lifted with the bigger tires. Although this is not the truck i use full time for offroading it does see its fair share of sand and dirt.
Also on a side note I pulled out a 4x4 jeep and a 4x4 tacoma from sand this weekend in the desert with my 4x2 explorer and didnt get stuck once so a lot has to do with the driver as well and knowing the extent of what your vehicle can handle.
What it boils down to is what you like doing, for me its going fast in the desert and i have a truck specific to that, here are some other extremely capable, purpose built 4x2's:

) or any other snow climate I would get a 4WD, but for my purposes I don't need it so 2WD suites me just fine.

I like to keep one of each around. I just bought a 2 wheel drive to replace the last 2 wheel drive. So the next truck will be a 4 wheel drive to replace the one I have now. They both have their purposes. There is always a reason to lift your 2 wheel drive. My favorite is vanity. The worst reason being that you want to drive it like a 4 wheel drive. In that case, you should have a 4 wheel drive. If you can only have one truck, then buy what you can afford, and do the best with what you've got.

I have no need for 4WD because I wouldn't take a truck I pay $30k plus for and then throw another $10k in mods offroading and tear the crap out of it. If I still lived in Ohio (born & raised there so yeah GO BUCKEYES!!! Just for you Thump

OSU's back in the hunt this year, just an Oklahoma win away from playing for a national championship for the 3rd time since 2002. Of course had OSU lost it's 5th game of the season vice it's 11th they'd probably already be back at the top. That's the one thing I don't like about college football, it's all about when you lose.
