Why lift a 2 wheel drive?
Well, some people get on here and ask what other people on here think about something-then its game on. But then others get upset because those opinions dont agree with or insult what they have done. But you cant complain when you ask for someones opinion and you hear something you dont like.
Old man, i have been around trucks since i was born. You like to rag on 2wd trucks but thats because you dont know how and where to use them, but your response did let me know what kind of OFFROADING you do. You like to take it slow and climb rocks, I like to haul *** on MUD, DIRT and SAND. Come to So Cal and ill show you want fun is.

I never "ragged" on 2wd trucks. I simply said for what I use my truck for, 4x4 is fairly useless. I also said thats why they give the option. You began my "ragging" on my driving skills. Saying I must not be able to wheel, or have fun.

I wheel in mud plenty, its how almost all wheelers get started. I always drive over dirt, and being just north of ya, have plenty of sand to go play in. Heck, I even used to own a huge Chevy, on 40" ground hawgs, that I would take out mudding. Ask anyone around who has wheeled with me, I am far from "nice" to my truck, I go fast and have a heavy right foot. I abuse all my rides and have plenty of "fun". Its just mud and what not got too easy. i started wanting more of a technical challenge vs. open throttle mud running. I started going slow on the rocks. Most fun you can have at 3mph ! Then, that wasn't enough.... now we race on rocks.
As for going slow... apparently you haven't been paying attention to the sport ! Its getting way cool man. Heard of King of the Hammers ?

see.... we like goin fast too.

You got yourself a rig 46 ? Or just your F150 ? Interested in any real wheeling ?
skeeter thats one way to look at it, but a thread like this winds up being an eye opener for some.
Haters come and go. Nobody here really gives a crap about their opinions because they have a bad attitude and talk down to others.
Lots of people modify their stock truck in some way. They find their way here and join this forum. Once they start reading and learning, They get a lot of ideas from other members and decide to "build" their existing ride into something they see here- be it a Harley, or a lowered street truck, or a lifted truck.
I dont have a newer body style truck, but I modified and lifted what I already had- based on what I learned and saw from members here. I see a lot of 2wd lifted trucks here that put my 4wd to shame and I definitely give them the thumbs up and appreciate what they have done.
Modifying what youve got, to(tastefully) look or perform like something other than stock should be looked upon with some degree of respect. Its a big part of why this board is succesful.
Dont listen to the idiots, they wont stick around long

Very true, plus it doenst seem smart to make a vehicle top heavy and then do serious offroading. I wont lie, Ive had my truck two years and only used it to haul stuff maybe 5 times. Plus, for what I paid I wont do any hard offroading with it anyway-dont want to tear it up!

Simply posting some examples. Not trying to "prove" anyone anything. Simply pics to show what a 4x4 can do.
Anyways, i do agree with most of your points. Most of the time, these trucks aren't doing anything extreme. A 2wd can go most of the places a 4x4 can go. A 4x4 just does it easier. And when your towing, trying to get to the trail/camp you just wana get there easily. The places I go, when stock, I was scraping my frame. I banged and bent up plenty of my underside, thats when i decided I needed a lift. Yes, a lift for true, extreme wheeling isn't what you want. Of course, there is a balance with this. Some lift is usually required, then lots and lots of fender trimming. On my new truck, I trimmed a little, but didn't want to hack off my fenders. in the links I posted, you can see some of my buddies rigs. They run no fenders. Simply gone ! Then they run wider axles to help push tires outside the vehicle. That way you stay low, but can also run large tires lifting your difs up and off the ground. I do haul and tow heavy loads with my truck I do it in some slop and less then perfect traction situations. 4x4 with big meaty tires help. I even run overly aggressive tires to help get me going. Its been awesome with no complaints. I have pulled and yanked my share of 4x4 and 2x4 vehicles who couldn't quite follow me. Click those links I posted in my previous spot. Has some REAL COOL vids. Yall will like it.

i got stuck in a sand pit one time in 2HI. popped it into 4Lo, and drove right out. This pit was like two truck lengths in diameter, and about six feet down. I don't like fighting through that kind of stuff in 2WD...
Not everyone goes off-road, so we don't all need 4X4 trucks. Plenty of trucks are sold in 2WD. 2WD truck owners still benefit from a better suspension, more aggressive tires, better ground clearance. In The City, I'm constantly driving up on curbs, through parks, and over center island dividers. Not to mention parking on top of lowered Honda Civics. I really enjoy being able to slide under my truck, with ease, for simple maintenance w/out having to jack it up.
