If I still lived in Ohio (born & raised there so yeah GO BUCKEYES!!! Just for you Thump ) or any other snow climate I would get a 4WD, but for my purposes I don't need it so 2WD suites me just fine.
What kind of gas mileage do you realy get on average?

Prior to moving to Hawaii I'd get 13 mpg in mixed driving (about 70% highway and 30% city driving) and 16-17 mpg in straight highway driving. Now that I'm in Hawaii and 99% of my driving is in stop-n-go traffic my mileage has dropped to about 11 mpg. Luckily though my overall driving has dropped also and I can make a tank of gas last 2-3 weeks so overall I'm actually spending less money on gas out here.

Why lift a 2wd?

I am new to this site and this is my first post. I have a 2003 f150 xl standard cab with a 4.2 v6 which I am in the process of lifting. To be perfectly honest, I wanted an f150 since I started driving but I am only 20 and had to buy mine on my own, so I went with the absolute base model to save money. I want the look of the 4x4 with out the price tag. I live in Ohio so we see a little snow but nothing too serious. I would absolutely by a 4x4 if I could afford it, but I can't so I'm making mine look like one. I don't tow or mud, but I do occasionally take her off road to my friends cabin. Needless to say, I love my truck and I like working on it. Even if the 2wd lift doesn't do anything for functionality, it still looks good in my opinion.

why do i always show up late for these heated threads haha. Dang school. I Hate it.

2wd good for looks, bad for functionality, but if you dont use 4wd then why waste money on it.

Why lift a 2wd, because its cheaper to fix when you break someting than on a 4x4, and if you really do offroad your truck, you will have to fix someting sooner or later.

What part is cheaper on a 2wd ??

You have less parts, but the parts we do share in common are the same price.

Yes, the old saying goes "pay to play". But if you know your vehicle, and have the ability to fix it yourself, breaking is all part of the fun ! lets you find any weak links and toughen your truck up eve more !

Exactly, more parts equals more money, im not comparing the parts $ im comparing the cost of 2wd vs 4wd.

I know, figured I'd say something though.

I just don't understand having a 2wd truck. I guess for what i do, 2wd is fairly useless. To each their own. Its why they make it an option i suppose.

my truck is a 5 speed- I agree- its fun.
I have a 4x4 mostly because I have ski's and launching them on steep boat launches with a slick or muddy pad can be impossible at some places with 2wd.

I say that from experience- I had to be pulled out a few times with my 2dw before.

My truck is lifted though the toughest off road use is sand. I dont like mud or water because I am **** about keeping it detailed and unscratched

so from my perspective- I lifted my 4x4 just for looks- so I can see why people lift their 2wd for looks

If you have'nt, get the Hurst Short Shifter, I got mine on ebay for $100 w/free shipping. Totally worth it, it makes your truck look good on the inside[lot of complements] and you will love to shift again.

I hear ya ! I have a few buddies with 2wd, and they come out and play in the mud even. We just give them a little yank when they need it.

Like I said, just for what i use my truck for, the 2wd is kinda pointless. I guess I could get by, with a locker, but man does 4wd make is a world easier to get my Zuk to some "difficult" locations.

No one asked YOU les !

I am **** about scratches and detailing too.... but I still wheel it ! Don't be a wuss ! Just DO IT !! lol

Ya, I agree with the looks part. I had other reasons to lift my truck, but I am sure a leveling kit and smaller tires woulda done the job. I LOVE the look of these trucks runnin a full lift kit and at least 35" meats.
