Next time I am out wheeling (sami is being all re-done, so it might be a month or two) i will show you some places 2wd just can't go (ROCKS ). Its that simple.
4x4 has more traction, period. Well put 02XLT

All things being equal, of course a 4x4 will go farther than a 2wd...I dont think anyone will argue with that. Its just people dont think a 2wd can go anywhere but pavement...which is completley wrong.

i tow a boat.
i offroad.

and i saved 3k on not buying a 4x4. i would rather put that into my boat or get exhaust, intake, xcal2 and a bullbar for that!

At the end of the day it all comes down to the old adage;
"It's better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it."

Also, 4x4 trucks hold their resale better than 2wd's.

I won't bash anyone for lifting their 2wd, it's their truck and their money. That said, I certainly don't believe that it will be as capable off road as a 4wd with the same mods done.

Maybe I don't off road as much as some folks who roll 2wd's or maybe I do. That's irrelevant, what is relevant is that I can!

My 4x2 is just what I need right now it looks good and I get compliments almost everywhere i go, so i'm good with haveing a lifted 4x2!!

Because it looks good. Half the people who lift 4x4 dont off road any way. It is less expensive way to make your truck look better

Remember a LOT of people with 4x4s never use the 4x4 mode or go off road! How many Range Rovers Sports actually go off road? They might see some snow on the way to the Condo in the mountains, but thats it. I remember when I was working for a Dealership and the #s that they had for % of 4wd that are actually taken off raod were like 10-15%. I know people in Vegas for example that use 4wd just for the rain or maybe to go to the mountains, thats it. Why do you think Ford removed the 4wd low on some vehicles/models. They were never used! When I was in So Cal, shoot Cars, I saw and talked to a lot of people that have lifted trucks and show trucks and they NEVER go off road! Its all about the look and the image. A client that has a Ford Gt, had me shoot his truck for him too, it was a Harley Superduty that he had lifted and tweaked! I know it never saw any offraod use, it was a toy, just like his GT is and his GT500 is. I wish I had some of those toys!

Aint nothing wrong with a lifted 4x2! Most people who lift their 4x4's do it only for the looks, and don't go off-road. The same reason some people with 4x2's lift it...cuz it looks damn good!!

Shines, I'm sorry but based on this post, all I can think about is John Belushi in Animal House saying "6 years of college down the drain." No offense!

The benefit of a 2wd though is ground clearance up front...even with and IRS 4x4 from, you can get to high due to the CV angles. Alot of not getting stuck, is knowing your vehicle, and being able to feel when it is digging, and how to get out of it. Like i said, i have a 2wd, sure it has wheel travel, but in sand, i have never been stuck, nor in mud..just know how to use your truck. Know how to park on a slope. Having raced off-road for awhile now, i have seen our 2wd toyota make it through some crazy ****..and yes...rocks! At a race in page, there was really techy section, where it was nothing but a slope and some slick *** rocks and boulders.. Not your average baja track. But we made it. and 5 times. This is a never ending debate, but credit must be given to 2wd's that are capable, and can show up any 4x4 out there with the right stuff, and more importantly..driver. You have a full spool in the rear..you can go alot of places in a 2wd.

Why lift a 2wd? Here's why....

I have always had 4by's but the last couple I have had I rarely used the 4wd. So, when I bought my SCrew in 03, I thought I would get a 2wd. Being a 2wd and under the same notion as many 4x4 owners, I first decided to lower my truck since it was 2wd. Well, I lowered it this past spirng and I couldn't stand it! It handled great and was faster, but I felt like I was driving a car. So, just last week, I took off my lowering kit and installed a 3" lift and stuffed 285/75/16 (33"). I am sooooo much happier. It looks better, rides better, and feels like a truck. And, for the type of offroading I do these days, I don't need 4wd. I do have a 3.73 with limited slip in the rear, so that helps some offroad. You have to admit, a lifted 2wd looks better than a lowered one! At least in my opinion.

Lowered

Lifted
