The challenge is open to any F-150 with the regular, un-modified 5.4L. Unfortunately, your van is disqualified just by nature of it being modified.

I'm not claiming to have the fastest vehicle around, just pointing out that the new 4.6L 3V in stock form packs better performance than it is often given credit for.

But if you want to race your van with it's modified and tuned 5.4L against my bone stock 2000 Volvo with a 2.8L engine, 4 speed auto and over 100,000 miles on the engine, I'm all game! I'll meet you within 100 miles of Seattle. But I'm warning you, it will hit 155 mph and it's exceedingly quick at getting to 135 mph. Your big, modified and tuned 5.4L V8 doesn't stand a chance against my puny little 2.8L bone-stock in-line six-cylinder with over 100,000 miles!

But I'll want to put the summer tires on, my winter tires are only rated to 120 mph! LOL!

P.S.-Those are real GPS speeds, not phoney speedometer speeds!

I'll make a deal with you. I'm driving my truck up too Central Point,OR tomorrow.I should arrive there wednesday and stay about 2 weeks. You drive down and we'll race. If I win you gotta come back on here and tell everyone how great the 5.4 is and admit defeat. If you win i'll pay for your gas roundtrip. I'm talking about a bone stock 5.4 crew cab with 3.55 gears. I will have my programmer set to stock and i'll even let you watch me remove the programmer. That's my only mod except for the 3" exhaust. I'm also running 285/60-18's so bone stock my truck isn't at such an advantage as you may think.

I would agree to that without a hesitation, but there are too many variables. Both trucks need to be bone stock, reg cabs, 2WD, 3.73 gears, and with stock 17's and 265's.

REAL i am aware ot the more "modern" engines. i dont believe if your towing and running 4200 rpm is not better economy or easier on any part of the truck.

i also will take that challenge with REAL. axle pull-off, 0-60, 0-100, 1/4, whatever. if you want to make it more fair, just get a programmer. oh wait it only makes 2 hp more. (on the performance setting?) add the tuner to the 5.4 makes much more power all over.

look at it this way, 5.4 makes more power from idle to 3750, more tq till 4000. at what rpm do you drive?

and as for your dyno, look at when it was done. different times of the year, 10 degrees different, different humidity, etc. thats your 5 hp.

i'ld love to hear how that challenge goes with 2004triton5.4!

I didn't mention anything about the dyno charts cause i'm hoping the horsepower gains for that 4.6 were wrong. lol I know the Xcal 2 in my mustang had to have gained more than 2hp. It's tuned for 93 octane gas also which does make a difference.

that was the 4.6 3v truck though. it wasnt able to crank any more out of the 3v i guess. yours should be a different 4.6 than these. and the 2v makes decent with a tuner.

Yea I know the tuning on a mustang is different from a truck so that could be why the truck isn't gaining as much power.

I think the reason that their tune gains so little for the 4.6 is because SuperChips sucks at tuning. I'm sure one of the top tuners in the F150 community could squeeze more than 2 HP out of it.

I also believe that Ford was really aggressive with the tuning. They had to make it produce enough so that people could justify buying the 3 valve over the 2 valve.

A stock to stock race with identical trucks (minus the engine) really would end this discussion. Also, these trucks weren't designed to be raced, but to tow and haul. Ford has designed the 5.4 to tow and haul better than the 4.6.

Well this will be my last post for a couple day's. We decided to leave earlier than expected since I was able to get tomorrow and tuesday off work also. I'll be leaving here in about an hour so if anyone wants to do some playing around on the interstate just keep an eye out for me. I'll be traveling on I-20,I-40,I-5 and a few others. We're going accross to dallas then up to I-40 and heading accross New Mexico,Arizona then all the way up California to Oregon. I'll be in the truck in my sig. I'll also be getting back online when I get to the in-laws in Oregon to see what stands as far as the challenge goes. Later!
