Have not been able to put the old module on, raining on days I can work on it or not hunting and could not find the old one.....
Double checked the firing order on the distributor, no luck.
I did replace the dash light for testing codes and got a OBD 1 reader. Nothing happens, no plinking light or codes. I did replace the testing plug, a previous owner removed it, but did a manual connection based on wiring diagram, still no codes and blinking dash light.
Have not pulled the computer out to check the components in it. I hear that there are few capacitors that tend to go bad.....
Pulled the ECM/Computer to check the capacitor. On removing the connector to the ECM, one of the pins came out, see photo. Tried to see about a new/refurbish on but ran into a problem finding the OM/OEM numbers. I did find numbers on the PC board, but can not find a match online or at the auto parts store. I have attached Photos of the module. Any help on finding the correct ECM to get (pre-programmed) or find the correct OM numbers.
The number on the board is E7TF-14A608-CD, only parts I can find for the year and engine (87m 5.0L/302) are E7TF-12xxxx-xx.
Thanks,
Missing Pin that came out Numbers melted into the side PC Board Number PC Board Close view of missing pin Whats left of lable Only capacitor and corrosion Only capacitor and corrosion What's left of lable PC Board Numbers
this is on the driver side door post just above the vin sticker and it is the software version that is required for this 96 truck ECM. I don't know if the 87 has the same or not.
RockAuto has several ECMs listed for the 87 5.0. based on type tranny, California or Federal emissions, and high altitude. You can probably check with nearby Ford dealership and with your VIN they may be able to give you the part number that is correct for your truck.
I am not sure if the missing pin is by design or broken off, but check the cable real good to make sure whether you need to fish out the old pin before re-pluging it to another ECM

The came out (female) when I pulled the plug (male) out of the module. It was till attached to the male plug... think it is pin #30....

I have not had the chance to go home and check the door jam, but I did have a photo of the VIN/Info from earlier.
Would the E4TA-1020472-EA be what I am looking for?
Bummer, I'm out of Ideas except for going to someone like AutoZone, give them year model ,engine, 2wd/4wd , transmission, and VIN . I don;t know where you live , or where the truck lived most of it's life, but must be a snowy area, based on the corrosion on the old ECM, so it is probably not the high altitude version nor the California emissions, just federal emissions. It doesn't seem likely that there would be more than one that would be right for it, but RockAuto shows 4 different cardone part numbers for the 5.0 Automatic trans with federal emissions.. I see from the trans code that it has the C6 auto trans.
I have the ECM/PCM ordered. Need to find these two parts. One is the rubber seal that goes on the end of the ECM/PCM the other is the holding bracket. The bracket is is behind the driver kick guard. On my model, I pull the ECM/PCM out from the cab. Have seen where some are held in by two 10mm bolts and pull out from the engine compartment.
I spent the last hour looking for these, The bracket can probably be repaired with a little sheet aluminum, tin snips, JB Weld, and pop rivets and some imagination. All I can think of for the gasket is to seal things up with black electrical tape and seal up around the cable with something like plumbers putty. your truck is a generation 8, 87-91 The ones with the ECM in the engine compartment firewall is the Generation 9, 92-96 models
