Door cracks at corner of window.

Discovered door cracks on both of my doors ('98 F-150) about 3 years ago. After a lot of fighting with the local dealer they installed the factory fix inside the doors and charged me for half the cost. This because I was just out of warrantee. They put in the extra reinforcement and repainted both doors. Being a structural design defect, I still think the factory should have picked up all the cost and treated it like a standard recall. On the plus side the door reinforcements have held up well and it doesn"t look like the cracks will be
coming back.

'98 XLT Supercab 83,000 miles Crack on drivers side as well.Noticed it last year at around 75,000 miles or so.What could I do about this?Well out of warranty but it's a structural defect. Why isn't it being treated a a recall?I also just got a recall notice in the mail last month for the cruise control not shutting off after you turn the vehicle off wich is causing fires. And then the case where the 2 people rolled over in an SCab and the suicide door collapsed ejecting 2 people out killing them.I'm starting to feel very health consious now when I drive.

The doors cracks are really not a safety issue, but it's sure anoying to have to look at them every time you open your door. I suppose if the cracks are big enough, and you live where it rains a lot, it could cause some rust in years to come. Where the cracks are forming is where there is a compound curve in the door. At that spot there's a concentration of stresses. The fact that doors get thrown closed all the time and maybe slammed occasionally doesn't help the situation. On the early years of our body style Ford just failed to make the door beefy enough where it needed to be. Then they came out with the repair kit that can be ordered through the parts department . To put it in (a major project) involves welding and glueing of support pieces to the inside of the door, then repainting the door. I believe the later year models came with this modification installed and it seemed to fix the problem. I would pester Ford about the problem and see if they are willing to do anything at all. I wouldn't be too optimistic but some dealers are better than others.

Small ones on both sides. The only thing I am not happy about with Ford so far on my 98 F-150 XLT SCAB 4x4. 73,000 miles

I just bought a 1997 F150 Supercab XLT with the 4.6 (only has 88000 kms) and it too has the cracks on both doors. I'm going to talk to a Ford dealer here to see what can be done about it.

2000 f150, have had the cracks since 2001. Drivers side first then a year later started to see it on the passenger side. I have not read all these replies but have these observatiosn and complaints. Before I bought this truck in 2000 I investigated multiple sources to be told that this had been addressed by Ford. Also, I don't know if anyone has mentioned it already but all fixes I've heard mention additions to or changing the material thickness of the skin. To me the source of the problem is not the door skin flexing but the extreem pressure exerted by the motor. Shouldn't there be a motor stop that kicks in before extreem flexing occurs????? I watch my window as it cranks upon the windor frame and this seems obvious to me and it would seem a simple retrofit.

Wow..... I can't believe this thread is still going. My former 98, with cracks is listed someplace, but at 27 pages, I'm not digging.....

Our 2001 never developed cracks, but it stayed in the family for only 1.5 years. My 03 has no cracks either.

But boy do I remember how frustrating it was trying to get the local stealership to correct the problem. 1 door repair led to a replaced and dented new door. Cracking never came back nor did the passenger door ever crack.

Is there still a 3 option TSB on this issue?

2000 Ford F-150, 68000 miles.

One crack in the drivers side door. Just noticed it the other day. I am surprised that this is a common thing.
