Pulled the trigger - Clarion MAX675/NAX970

Whew....after about a month of searching, researching and reviewing I bought the Clarion MAX675VD Double Din headunit and the Clarion NAX970HD Navigation Harddrive.

Got the wiring harness, the surround piece, Ipod connector wiring, and a video bypass so the DVD will work all the time. Two Myron & Davis headrest monitors complete my order.

Of course, I'm eating Spaghetti-Os for the next month, but it ought to be a nice setup once I get it all installed.

If anyone has tips/advice for installation/setup of this system, please respond. I'll be sure to take pics of the install.

Anxiously awaiting.....

Who'd you purchase it through. Did you use Travis at www.kcautosound.com ? I know he carries everything you listed. He's saved quite a few of us a ton of money and backs his products up 100%

Its funny. You have pretty much the same setup I think my buddy has. Myron headrests and Clarion DVD. I don't think he has gotten the navigation yet. He always says he doesn't need it but when he sits in my wife or my truck and sees the nav working he starts talking about checking on the price for his....lol

D-Dog,

I bought the HU and the Nav through ecletic mart, an eBay seller. The harness, surround, video bypass and Ipod connector I bought off different sellers on eBay. I got the HU and Nav for $579 a piece. $24 shipped both items to me.
I usually go with a local shop, but this seller saved me a about $400 off the retail price. And included a 6 month warranty.

How does your friend like the Clarion/MD setup? The headrest monitors I bought look pretty nice. I can't wait to get it all loaded in.

I'll definately take pics when it all gets in..

Here's what I ordered:

Clarion Max675VD Headunit

ClarionNAX970HD Navigation unit

Clarion Ipod Connector - received

Speciality Electronics Video Bypass - received

Scosche Wiring harness

Scosche Surround - received

I need to do some Dremel work on my radio opening. Mine's not quite big enough for a double din headunit. TThanks to the forums, I found a guide that'll help me out.

Once I get everything here, I'll take some pics. I'll definately tak pics of the install.

Sketti-o time!!!

All the items you're asking about I bought on eBay. Here are the sellers:

Video Bypass - speciality-electronics $48 incl s/h
Scosche Wiring harness - www.streetwerkz.com - $6 incl s/h
Scosche SUrround - volaudio - $15 incl s/h
Clarion Ipod Connector - I got the one for video Clarion # CCA-673-600 - chken - $58.00 incl s/h
The HU and Nav I got from eclectic mart $579 a piece and $24 total shipping. Plus they have a 6 month warranty. Best price I could find in all my searches. They have more HU and Nav's.
I have an 02 F-150 Supercrew. I have to do some Dremel work on the radio opening to make the Double Din fit. I have a great guide for it if you need it, let me know.
Hope this helps. Go to the Clarion website (www.Clarion.com) and look for the exact item numbers you need, then check eBay. www.sonicelectronix.com has the best price other than some eBay sites, and they include the harness and surround, but I'm not sure what brand they use. They were out of stock when I ordered mine but have them in now.

LEt me know how your install goes. I'll include pics when I do mine. Just waiting for all the parts/pieces to get here. Fed Ex says my HU/Nav will be here tomorrow. I wish I didn't have to fly this weekend.
Let me know if there's any more info or any more help.
Luck,

Let me know what you think of the NAV. I have the head unit but I heard you cant control the Nav while driving even with the bypass.

Update

All the parts are finally here. NOw to figure out the wiring. I opened the HU and Nav boxes just to take a look at the wiring harnesses....WOW!! I have to admit, I'm a little intimidated by all of it.
According to the Nav installation book, I have to tap into the Engine Speed Wire and a couple of others that I have NO idea as to their location.
Plus, I'm throwing the headrest monitors in the mix as well as the Ipod Interface.
I guess I need to get it all out of the boxes and lay it out so I can see what gets wired to what. Plus I have to include the Video Bypass in there somewhere. I just hope theirs room inside my dash. I guess that's what a Dremel is for, huh? HAHA

Pic of the whole thing will follow soon.

The ipod is easy, the headunit is easy just start with the harness and bypass and then it all plugs together, as far as the speed sensor, you dont need it for the head ubit but im not sure about the NAV. I dont have that part yet.

Breed-bypass install question

Breed,
I just bought the 675vd with the bypass and I don't exactly understand the wiring instructions on the bypass. Obviously Black goes to the Ground, but where exactly do Green and White go? The instructions say Green goes to the Hand Brake on the Clarion and White goes to Remote On on the Clarion but I don't see a Remote On wire on the Clarion.

Any help would be appreciated. I can't wait to get this thing up and running.

Sorry im out of town. If i remember correctly. Just twist the green to the hand brake wire on the wiring plug that inserts in the back on the MAX. I think the remote on is blue. And its the same one I used on my amp.So the system turns on the amp an bypass at the same time. when it is hoked up the screen will blink twice to the parking brake nt on screen but then it will be useable. hope this helps

Reach under the dash and find the Green wire coming from the parking brake sensor. It is a pain in the A__ to grab. ONE wire. Just tap the head unit and Nav green wires to this and it will work. Just did mine.

The overall install was straight forward and took about three hours. I put the Nav unit under the passenger seat. I did remove the extra RCA jacks from the harness in the back leaving just the ones for my overhead Clarion monitor.

Does any one know how to get the GPS on the correct state? I have the 970HD system with the Max 675 headunit. Mine says that I am in California and I am in Virginia?? I can not figure it out. Clarion says the Speed sensor wire must be hooked up, and they are NOT very helpful. Any one know which wire this is from the computer on a 2002 F150? I did not hook up this and the Rear Back up wire. It does not make sense that it must be connected to make a difference. Any ideas??

Speed Sense is shown to be a GRAY/BLACK wire at pins 68 or 58 at the PCM
