I used the American International FM-K552 kit. I completely cut off the top bar of the kit, but the side bars are pressed between the body of the HU and the hole in the dash. You cant tell that the bar is gone. It opens and closes with no binding or catching or anything.

Got the wiring harness, the surround piece, Ipod connector wiring, and a video bypass so the DVD will work all the time. Two Myron & Davis headrest monitors complete my order.

Of course, I'm eating Spaghetti-Os for the next month, but it ought to be a nice setup once I get it all installed.

If anyone has tips/advice for installation/setup of this system, please respond. I'll be sure to take pics of the install.

Anxiously awaiting.....

How is the navigation system working out. Do you have full control of it while driving.

The Nav is great! I ran green wire (parking brake) wire from the nav and from the HU into the bypass and I have control of both systems while driving. I don't have to turn it off and on repeatedly to get it to work or anything.

The Nav is pretty easy to work. You can look up addresses quickly with the touchscreen. Once you start typing in a address, the Nav will look up the rest of the address for you. It's hard to describe, but it works great!

If you miss a turn or choose to go another route, the Nav will rerprogram the route for you based on your turn.

One thing I had a tough time finding was the Speed Sense wire. I found it as part of the radio harness (gray/black wire). If your factory HU has the ability to get louder as your speed increases, it's the speed sense wire thats doing it. I have a '02 S-crew and it was part of the secondary harness (the one that's not used with the new radio.) I tapped the pink wire from the HU and the Nav into it.

I ran my headrest monitor cables under the carpet and into the back of the HU, the 2 zone feature is easy to use.

For some reason or another, Clarion headunits won't work if you just ground the parking brake wire. It requires a bypass.

I mounted the Nav harddrive under my back pass. seat.

Please feel free to ask any questions about the install. I put mine in my '02 S-crew, so I can't help and 04 -up owners.

Rock on,

I had to take it out, take off the dash kit, get the leatherman, and shave off some of the bottom trim. Since I did it from the inside, no one can even tell. Now it is all the way back and as flush as it can get and the face closes....
I went to radio shack got a 2 dollar switch and hooked it up to bypass the video filter. Not hard at all and took me no more than five minutes..

I do have a probem and was hoping that someone that has this unit could help.

I have all my mp3 albums in thier own folder for organization.
So, I burnt a standard dvd full of mp3s and it comes to 63 albums.
So in the root/mast folder, there are 63 folders each named for the artist and album.
The problem that I am having, is the unit only displays the first 21 folders in the list and search options. I did two different burns and the same thing. The book says that it can support up to 255 folders. Has anyone else had this problem? Somthing that I am missing?
I don't want to throw all albums into the same folder as it isn't easy to change albums then...
Is there a setting or somewhere I go to get it to access the additional folders?

I have never done the DVD files before, but I would suggest an IPOD, it is probably the best system for music and video.

Do you have any pics of your bracket and setup of the clarion.

I did the install myself. I don't trust most install people since I have seen them do shady things.

Wasn't that hard to do, the most time consuming is wiring the harness, and then when I had to shave down the dash kit some. Other than that, not that bad.

I included the pics I took on my cell, again not the best quality. I will try to get some this afternoon with my digital camera. These do not do it justice.

For the most part is flush. The mounting brackets would align with any holes if I slid it up any more. The dash kit that I got from a local shop was the Metra 955812. There is also another model number out there that I got when I installed my 1 din alpine and it had both 1 din w/shelf and 2din mounting items. The problem is, I found the trim, but couldn't locate the mounting brackets. I also don't know the model number of it. I threw away the book/packaging earlier this year. It would have been perfectly flush but oh well. This is the only one that they had in stock and I tried a few places.

I don't mind having it out a little bit. I use it as a guide when pressing the buttons. I just run my middle finger along the outside and use my index finger to push. Without it and driving, you will need perfect aim when pressing the button. With this, I don't have to take my eyes off the road when using the hardware buttons.

The kit came with spacers for the trim itself for explorers so it will make the dash kit flush with the dash itself.
In my truck the top part was recessed slightly when just using the mount itself and I didn't like that. I used the spacers only at the top and this evened it out perfectly. Unfortunately, the factory bolts that hold it in, were not long enough. I had to use the phillip screws that were in the package.

Do any of you have a dvd burner and some dvds that could burn a dvd with songs organized in folders to see if you only get the first 21 folders. I would like to see of it is my computer/software or if it is something with the head unit.

Thanks

Thanks!

I am using Nero 7.8 on Vista.

Basically on my hard drive I have all my MP3s organized by albums in thier own folder.

I used Nero and said to create a data dvd.
THen I dragged and dropped as many folders(albums) that would fit until the disc as full.

Here is a pic of the directory.

It is in consitant on what it will read.

For example, the first dvd that i made, the head unit will not read the "aperfect circle albums"

The second dvd/third does. I didn't do anything to them to change the naming or anything.

That is why I had to shave it down some. I took the dash kit off, and starting from the inside, the side that touches the bottom of the face, and started shaving it down.

Didn't have to take much but works perfectly now. No probs.
