Real sport bikes are I4, sorry. :P

I had a ninja 250 for a year, I think it saved me some crashes too because even if you wrap the throttle you won't wheelie too bad, and you can't go too fast to get you into serious trouble. It's a great trainer bike to teach you the basics on.

Good luck!

This Buell is right around 5K with only 2000 miles. It's a sport bike, it's got a v twin, gotta love that combo.

All I know is I need to learn to ride, do it safely, and most of all, have fun. I appreciate any advice you guys have.
Too bad I got rid of that sv650, I think that would be a perfect starter bike. It had enough power to satisfy for a while but not too much power for starting out. The sv650s is what I had and was more of a sport bike seating position, the sv650n is the naked version with a more standard style seating position. I prefer the standard style and would love to get a Kawasaki Z1000! Anyway, I would definitely consider a 03-up sv650, 03 was the first year of the restyle with fuel injection (love fuel injection!), and seemed like a great bike for the short time I had it. Either way I would buy early on if possible as I see the bike market heating up quickly with the rising gas prices. Also, I would buy used to start out in case you make some rookie mistakes, I know I did!

If I buy used, it would be from a dealer. I don't trust that I would see flaws in a private sale used bike that more experienced eyes would see. I found some left-over 09 250 Ninja's on CL from a dealer in St. Joseph Missouri. Bikes do seem to be selling from what I've seen.

The 250's are fun and are an excellent beginner bike - but it won't take long and you'll be looking for something bigger. However, the smaller CC's get excellent mpg's!! Another bike I was once considering, being that I live on gravel roads, was either the tried-and-true Kawasaki klr650 or the Suzuki drz400. Both Dual-Sport motorcycles. I think they'd be fun too.

The 650 would be better if going to be on the highway due to it's heavier weight. It wouldn't get thrown around as much as the 400 would.

Not that I know too much about motorcycles, but a good friend of mine had a Suzuki DRZ400 and said it was a real dog, rode it for a few months then got rid of it. He was commuting to Lincoln from Otoe County and would fight to keep it at 60 on Hwy 34. Just letting ya know

Yeah a light 400 would be no fun on the highway. the 650 R is a blast and with the right tires is an easy cross country ride.

I just had to see if I could get my truck over this snow pile at work today. And yes, I can

Gotta love being able to play!

I finally broke down and ordered the rear weather tech mat for my truck. I found one place that sold it for $85 with shipping instead of the $100+ shipping they have been going for.

I'm looking into getting a new battery for the truck. What do you guys recommend? And do I need the bigger cold cranking amp battery around this area? Someone told me that I don't. But the truck does sit outside and isn't garaged. And who has good deals on them?

I did the riders course in Lincoln last year at the Nebraska Safety Council. It was $245 and about 2.5 days of my time. Over the weekend that is. But I bought a 2005 Harley Davidson Sportster painted Yellow Pearl. It has about 5000 miles on it.

I went and got an gold top everstart battery(whichever their best grade battery is) from orielys, I personally always go with the biggest cold cranking amped battery I can get it makes starting in the cold a whole lot easier. But you probably don't need one I know I went overkill at 990cca.

Thanks 05, I got the everstart maxx. I think it has 880 if I remember correctly. Walmart had it for $82. And now just 3 days later my service engine soon light popped on. Autozone ran the code and it looks like it may be the crank shaft sensor.

that Focus looks fun... when my truck is paid off, I'm looking for a car to drive, mainly to keep the miles off the truck longer term... silly I know. Been thinking about a 3 series, 328 or 330. But that Focus has my attention..
