Why do you think it's a 4.6 manifold ****?

Remember the old catch phrase that got thrown around here a lot...you get what you pay for? It seems the answer is a year and and a half of waiting. I'm sure it'll be sweet when it's finally done.

People can think what they want, the truth, no matter what it is will be out very soon. Will it be a 5.4 4-valve with the Whipple 201 blower on it? I think so, but everyone has their right to what they think and or believe.
It has been a very long wait, more than I planned and more than Jim planned as well I'm sure. I am banking on the fact that this truck will be worth every day of the wait, and then some.
I will be going down to NJ next weekend, and the truth will be out. If it is the 5.4 4-valve with the 201 blower you non believers will have to suck it up and quit with the negative crap. When someone has been this long with out seeing ones truck negitive post don't help.
If you are right than I will tell you so, but if you were wrong than you should join in with the rest of my Lightning brothers with enjoying this project.
The next week will determine a lot.
Bill

I hope everything works out and you get your truck next week. Can't wait to see what it turns. I'm sure it's gonna be very fast! I'm also glad you are taking one for the team and trying a different combination. I am going to try something a little different my next time around. Right now I'll just throw some boost to it and see how fast I can go.

You know bill, not to **** on the parade or anything, but dont you think if the 5.4 DOHC to Eaton lower was actually done, it would be advertised in order to recoup the costs?

I mean, i was quoted $3500 avg just for the piece of be custom. That DID NOT gurantee it would be a tuned and flowed piece. It was basically a crap shoot to engineer it. A buddy of mine could give me a deal on the casting and do it for $2700.

$85,000 to do it right. You figure, $2000 a pop to recoup your investment. THEN.. How can you gurantee you will sell enough of them to recoup. Then theres the hope to make a profit after initial investment. Then comes the saga of getting the heads. Are you aware at how much it costs to do the DOHC heads? If JDM, REM and JLP are charging say $2400 and some change for 16V heads to be P/P, new springs bronze v/g, etc... could you imagine the cost of doing the DOHC heads?

I know for a fact Whipple doesnt make a kit for the 4.6 OR 5.4... Especially a 201. This is exactly why Works is in business, to adapt those blowers for our trucks. Since when has JDM been capable of doing such a thing?

I would LOVE to see a 5.4 Blown Lightning before someone gets a hold of a GT motor. However, i priced my engine alone at $35,582. That was being conservative. It just wasnt worth it.

Good luck bro.

At any rate, i wish you the best on the 5.4 DOHC Blown motor but i dont think we will be seeing anything soon. Ive seen attempts of abortion 4.6 lowers to 5.4 and they look down right scary.

Flying ****,
You make some good points and I do understand them.
Like I said, by next weekend I will know if it is was Jim has been telling me or not.
I hope and still think that it will be, but if I am wrong I will admit it and say that you were right.
JDM, don't let me down...

I sure hope everything works out, for me with my truck, and for JDM for this whole project. It has got both positive and negitive reviews so we will see how it turns out. I really hope that the outcome is positive for Team JDM, as I do like being apart of the Team.
And I can't wait to get my Lightning back.
Good luck this year, and I can't wait to see what direction you go in next.

Hey bill,

I am sure everything will work out. Best case, you get your truck back as one bad ****, worse case you still get a built lower, 2v heads, and works or kb, and still have one fast *** L

Brandon,
Thanks, we have to think positive. And I can live with either of the two end results that you mentioned.
I am still shooting for the first one, but by next weekend I will know which one I will have.

BILL

I don't know what conversations took place between you and Jim, and if your truck doesn't turn out to be what you first planned, look at it this way, you can still stick a built up 2v in there with a KB, or Works and your truck will still be screaming!!!!

I hope it turns out the way you wanted it, but I think in this case, second best isn't half bad. Keep your head up bud, and good luck next weekend.

You haven't figured it out yet?

That's a 4.6 if I'm not mistaken. Apparently there is more than meets the eye(s) here.

tallimeca,
Every conversation that I have had with Jim have been positive.
When you have waited as long as I have and you read some of the replies your mind will start playing tricks on you.
I have days when I don't even think about my truck and then I have the days when that is all that I can think of.
I wish that there was a switch that you could shut off so your brain wouldn't work so hard.
For the most part I am still very happy with all of my decisions and I think everything will work out fine.
Don't get me wrong, I haven't lost faith in Jim, I am looking very much forward for this project to be finished and for it to be what it has been said that it will be. I need to see my truck and to see where it is in the project, I need to do that for me. I believe when I see it I will be happy. If it doesn't seem to be coming to an end soon Jim and I will have to sit down and do some changes. As I can't miss another racing season.
Peace brother and I will see you this summer.
Bill

hey

rereading my post,it sounded a little negative, but i'm sure you know what I meant. I'm sure it would be a lot easier for you if the truck was in reasonable driving distance so you could check on it here and again.

When I finally get to meet you soon, your welcome to take my truck for a spin, but you might not have as much fun as you would with yours

Actually, if this is the block I'm thinking it might be, it was previously a SHM 32V engine sold to the OneLap crew. They had a problem with it, went to JDM, worked something out and traded it for a built 2V block that they've since kept.

There was some kink with the valve clearences or something that JDM was going to tackle to fix...which also means, at one time, it had a properly sized intake for an Eaton already...don't know how much that would have to change for the whipple.

If its the same block, it was a nice engine when I saw it a year or so ago.

Of course, everytime I go to JDM, I see engines all over, so who knows. lol.
