Anyone who thinks that helmets don't help reduce injur or death should just ask themselves: why do ALL professional racers wear helmets? I can't believe that there is even any debate on this subject.
Yes, serious injuries that could have been prevented with a helment costs everyone money--both in taxes for indigent care and insurance rates. Of course they do--how could they not? We might argue about how much, but the basic point is indisputable.
Yes, I wear a helmet on my bike. PERIOD.
Should the government mandate helmets? Dunno. I can see both sides of the issue. But for God's sake, I can't stomach the ridiculous arguments made by anti-helmet groups.

I'm with ya on this one. Like I said in the above post, I do sometimes choose not to wear my helmet, it's only like around the block. (Which is about 5 miles. Yes I know when I do this, my chances of DEATH goes way up, if something should happen to me, and I try to be extra careful. And YES, I know most crashes happen within 3 miles of your home. It's my life, and I can do what I want. And yes, if something should happen, I'll live or die with my choice. But 99.7% I have my helmet on, with my leather jacket, gloves and boots.
I wrench, and shake, every time I see riders just wearing shorts and a tank-top. What really bothers me is when I see young people do this, knowing they have no earthly idle what they are/could get them self into. Most of them are weekend rides with little or no training.
Once again just my .02

Well if the rider wasn't wearing a helmet and crashed his or her bike wouldn't there be a better chance of no $100k hospital bill? I mean if it is the insurance premiums that you are concerned with you should be telling people not to wear the helmets. That way the chance of leaving the sceene of the accident in a body bag goes way up, and the ride to the hospital for expensive treatments goes way down. The way I look at it is I am doing you Insurance premium nuts a favor, if I ever go down hard on my bike I will most likely be put in a bodybag and your insurance won't go up because of me. Atleast not medical

I do agree that people should wear what ever it takes to increase their chance of survival. And I am not trying to sound like I don't agree, because I do. You know the saying (Do as I say, not as I do) That fits this great, wear your helmets if you ride a motorcycle, and your seatbelts when in a vehicle. I know I would like everyone that I care about to do that, I am just too stubborn or stupid to do what I know is best. Maybe some day I will change my ways, who knows.

Just this morning I brought my L to about 145 MPH and I know it still had lots in it but I let off. My 3-4 shift happens at 135 MPH so I know I can easy do over 150+ on 4 gear if I ever get the room to try it and the *****.
In my L 142 , in my lifetime 165 and still pulling in my 91 Stealth twin turbo with the windows up and the air condition on. Didn't realize I was going that fast until I glanced at the speedo then I eased off. Was racing another Stealth TT and he was stuck on my tail all the way. Whew!
dodge avenger 120'ish.
Jeep Wrangler, 100'ish
Jeep Grand Cherokee 110
Lightning (stock) about 130'ish... traffic comes up quick, had to lift
When i was at MSU I was a downhill Racer (Skier) I was clocked at 71mph. That is the scariest speed I've ever been, one mistake and I'm skidding down a steep mountain with boulders and cliffs on my A$$ and head.
that is about 10mm off the ground.
