4000 rpm (about 125 mph I estimate) in the 4 x 4 with a kayak hanging out the back. Haven't really hung out the L yet.

Here is what I can remember with most recent first.
New YZF600R......115 and still pulling hard.
'00 Lightning 140 is what the speedo read for a few miles.
'98 GT Convertible...........135 with the top down
'98 F150 XLT 4X4 s/c.......110 is all she would do.
'94 Lightning wouldn't go much faster than about 115-120
'94 Cobra........140 in fourth or fifth gear, didn't matter.
That's on the ground..
In the air 130 knots in the Archer II as PIC.
As a passenger..
160 + in a '68 Charger R/T, balanced 440 with twin 4 barrels under the hood, nitrous and 2:73 gears out of an Imperial..
Strap a rocket to me and put me on a skateboard!!
I love the speed!!

Thumbs down

No, I won't say it again, because i've proved my point. I'm so happy that this world is so much safer because of people like you who feels that every aspect of the human life needs to be controlled and regulated. By the way, if you feel that every aspect of our lives should be regulated,

The People's Republic of China is this way ------------------------>

<------------------- And the Venezuala is that way.

It nice that people like you always somehow point the finger at an irrelevant cause, and conveniently takes the cause of the issue out of the equation. I sure do feel safer because of you.......

It's really nice that this society likes to shrug off their responsibity when it comes time to accepting the consequences, and always finds a way to point the finger away from the main issue, and to a irrelevant cause. Again, we go back to your hypothetical situation. If Mrs. Soccer mom would never have hit the biker, then the entire situation would never have happened. Instead of pointing the finger where it should be(Mrs. Soccer Mom), you manage to blame the guy who had nothing to do with it who was just out there cruising around. BTW, 1+1 = 2............

I don't agree with you, but I respect your right to say what you please, but please don't insult me. By originally resorting to childish name calling, I think you just proved which one of us is more immature

Helmets

FWIW people, helmets and seatbelts not only save your lives, but they also cut down on insurance payouts and premiums, and keeps your hard earned money from paying all those tax dollars towards medical expenses of indigent care.

Considering motorcyles, it's not always the other guy's fault or the soccer mom's, as the motorcyclist can also be at fault. Regardless, it's not "who's at fault". It's ultimately about everyone else suffering because of someone's idiotic choice of not wearing their seatbelt or helmet. It's that simple!

You know better 4D.

Going on, I think it's quite understandable what the consequences are of doing foolish things. They affect everyone eventually. This is what my point has been focused on all along.

June, you've given no mature reasoning as to why there shouldn't be nationwide helmet laws. Only objectionable replies to something you scorn your ownself.

Your stance on the subject is about like believing people shouldn't have to even wear seatbelts. Then again, I bet you feel the same on that very subject as well.

looks like about 20 states have mandatory helmet laws. 4 have no laws at all, and the rest have age restrictions and or medical insurance requirements. the map kind of looks like the Bush/Gore presidential election in division on the subject, imagine that!

our Governor, an avid motorcyclist, lobbied to have our long standing mandatory helmets law changed a few years ago. he was successful, and challenged his critics to provide proof thru statistics that he was making a mistake. the law stands, as no one has been able to show that

Good one!!

My fastest in the Lightning- 101 on the track, 80 on the road, and STILL got passed by an ovarian van (soccer mom vehicle) with at least 4 kids in it. THAT really irks me. Don't try so hard to take kids to he!! with you. After a 500.00 ticket with my 5.0LX, going fast for the heck of it isn't that important anymore. And yes, I AM wearing a helmet.

Back to the front!!!!

For the record...

I wear a helemt when riding... MOST of the time!

An interesting set of statistics:

"The Nebraska helmet law was enacted January 1, 1989. Motorcycle registrations were 29,088 in 1988 and 20,264 in 1991. Fatalities were 19 in 1988 and 15 in 1991. Motorcycle riders declined 30% while fatalities declined only 21% (Nebraska Department of Motor Vehicles, Nebraska Motorcycle Crash Statistics).

Taken from here:

http://www.harleymom.com/legislature.htm

Not to mention other data concerning helmets I've learned in the past 6 months...

DOT tests helmets by dropping them with a 6 pound weight in the helmet from a height of 6 feet. A helmet MUST NOT show ANY cracks to PASS the test.

NO HELMETS actually PASS the test. They get APPROVED. Meaning they remained in one peice, but had structural failure.

Now... think about it... just how fast is that helmet traveling when it hits the ground? 30 MPH? I doubt it.

This brings in to question the legitamcy of the trade off... Impair sight and hearing for THAT little amount of protection? It DOES seem that the sight and hearing MAY prevent accidents. Once again... Should we restrict the personal freedom of those who don't like helmets? I dunno. Personal choice.

Also... If soccer mom is SOOOOO mentally unstable as to blame herself for an ACCIDENT, then maybe she SHOULDN'T be driving AT ALL!

Insurance rates? Well... the stats don't back you up BfB... Insurance rates have NEVER fallen in states after passing a helmet law.

Helmet laws? This is a definate violation of personal frewedom. And where does that violation stop? How about laws preventing manufacturers from producing a truck that will go faster than 70 MPH?

WOW!!! Talk about a drop in accident rates and deaths!!! Talk about a DROP in insurance rates? HA!!! YEAH RIGHT!!!
