Just so that everyone knows, if we do plan on doing a 3 class deal and or king of the hill matchup. Now is the time to lay the cards on the table and do it. I have 2 full page ads going in MM&FF's and 5.0 magazine. Drop deadline for George to design the ad is this Wedsnday. Nows the time to finalize the program so we can promote it the way we should.

As a 'mere' West Coaster only hoping to be able to catch some of this on ESPN. My 1/2cent is:

1) JL is sponsoring the class, and taking the time to make it happen so he can set whatever rules he wants. And should get some kudo's for the effort.

2) But if JL was looking for any input about the rules, I think if you can drive it on the highway for 20 min at 85MPH, that is a 'run what you brung car'. I can see trailering if somebody is coming 1000+ miles. But all you want to do is keep out the $50,000 'drag only' motors.

3) Or conversely, make it a claiming race, where anyone can buy a competitors car at a set amount, say $60,000. (Obviously not a lawyer here.)

Have some great racing 'right' coasters!!!

Low 11's

GEN2's
Jim without nitrous 11.4?
Sal with nitrous 11.2?
JL ??
GEN1's
?
Along with several others in the 11's with nitrous.
This will not work, just my $.01 worth. I predict maybe 12 trucks total which will not support this type of race. If I lived closer or had the luxury of towing my truck up there, I would be one of the 12, but................. I don't.

1st. of all i don't want anyone thinking i'm being bitter about this! If i was bitter i wouldn't be taking $2,000.00 of my money to promote this event. I said in a previous post i'm Listening to all the input. I agree with dave for those who are going to pre-register then you can cast a vote. If the majority wants 2 power adders then thats what it will be! I just know from the past no 2 poweradders was allowed. I want this to be an event for the Lightning Community! I'm willing not to take 1 red cent! of the winnings if the other "tuners" agree not to! this isn't about me getting my money back its about just being fair all the way around. If we as a "tuner" win. Then thats all we get the Win! I'm willing to let the Lightning community win the $... This should make "everyone" want to participate.( i would think!) If i were to take 1st then the 2nd place guy (other than a Tuner) will get the 1st place prize! right down the line and so on. Dave you said Jim talked to John M. and inquired about a match race between him myself and sal? We'll it looks like Jim is comming then. So maybe he would want to put up $2,000.00 for the pay out in that Match race between us 3 ? $1,000.00 1st. 750.00 2nd 250.00 3rd.? That way ALL 3 Tuners will be Putting $$ up to contribute to the Event. And this "match * race will help us *tuners* to get a little something back.. This is just a thought. everybody can give their input on this and maybe we can make it work for *everyone*. Thats my goal to make it as *fair as possible.. So lets see who is willing to pre-register and cast their vote. Remember if your not going to participate in the race then your vote will not count..Give us your feed back and we'll try to do whats best for the *lightning Community*.....(also remember us 3 *tuners* might not even be close to 1st place from what ive been hearing!) So don't be surpised if someone we never heard of comes and whips all 3 of us *tuners* Ive learned along time ago theirs always someone FASTER!..JLP

1BadTK points out:

I predict maybe 12 trucks total which will not support this type of race. .

So maybe someone could offer to make a decent video of an 'all comers/all tuners shoot-out, accept advance purchases from the lighting community at large (for the video), and the 'profits' of this video help pay all the actual the contestants, regardless of how many show up???

Could have interviews with each of the contestants, video's of their trucks (unless it's a secret) discussions of which mods they kept and which they discarded....

Would the lighting community at large support this?

I'd pay $40 for something like that.

If you don't get enough purchases the race is subject to cancel...

Anyway enough from an '20 month Junior member!

I think there will be less than 10 trucks, due to the fact that they all must have legal cages. The winner will be low 11's. I don't see myself competing because of the cage rule. So count me out of rules decisions. I do think that I would be a spectator if it was a 'run what you brung' event. I want to see that fastest Gen II trucks compete.

Rules could be the following:
5.4 L block
Gen II Lightning Vin #
stock frame

Don't get me wrong I'm glad that Johnny Lightning has put up the money and it sure seems like there are more events like this one than ever thanks to the tuners.

Ok, this is all starting to give me a headache.

"Sal has been a great supporter of the Modular Shootout when noone else did, but this statement is not true. We have never allowed Nitrous into the heads up Lightning class's the past 2 years."

That's not true Dave. In 2000, nitrous was allowed in the heads up class. Remember High Risk running 12.60s on spray? In 2001, nitrous was not allowed in the bracket class, but was allowed in the heads up class. Remember Arthur from SC was turning 12.30s on spray?

"It wont take low 11's to win. Has anyone broke into the 11's period without NOS? If so, I know its not by much."

Yes, there are many trucks running 11s off nitrous. JDM has run 11.40 off nitrous, only .2 behind my best nitrous pass.

Dave, your 3 class idea sounds good. I sponsor the Bracket, JL sponsors the Heads Up, and JDM sponsors the King of the Hill. All three of us have equal representation, and if I can't race in the Heads Up, then at least I can race in the King of the Hill. Seems fine to me. However even with me not racing in that class, I still stand by my original views on the rules, they are not fair to the nitrous trucks. If you ban the use of nitrous , there needs to be a boost and weight limit set for the class.

I know Jim has expressed his thoughts on this event, but as pointed out, there is a FFW that same weekend, and he sponsors that and is also racing for points. I don't know if Jim will give that up for this event. We'll just have to wait and see his response.

Dave,

It was (John Mihovetz) who called me for my input on your event.
I told him a good attraction for the fans, would be to have all three tuners there.
In fact most promotors will pay a min. fee to have a grudge match,
which will attract fans and partisapints.

But now you are getting greedy and trying to make the tuners pay cash so your event can be a success.

I say thats alittle a$$ backwards.

Why don't you have a Heads Up class for Lightnings that run the 1/4 mile with their spare tire still under their trucks !

Better yet their beds full of horse manure because that's what this is.

FFW is the same weekend
That is where I will be.
I know the promotors there will pay Sal 2,500.00 to race in the Heads Up class and the same goes for JL.
I will also be entering in that class.
It will be the best two out of three runs, winner takes all.
It will be just the three of us.

This is the biggest pay out in the Lightning class history.

Dave & JL,

If you can come up with the same thing that Fun Ford is doing
I do have two trucks, I will be more than happy to show up at your event.

JDM: I don't know what was said between you and John but thats not the way it was told to me, and
I know John real well. I talk to him almost every day.

At first I didnt want any Lightning tuners doing it. However noone else stepped up to the plate. Another company in fact pulled out of the deal completely. JL "ASKED" to do the second class out of fairness and I felt like it was the right thing to do.

I'm not trying to get greedy, I was trying to accomidate everyone. You're talking to a guy that puts every penny back into the purse that gets raised, and I"ve done it for 4 years straight. IF you don't want to step up to the plate and race at The Mod Motor Shootout that is your choice. Sal and JL will be at Cecil.

I'm out to promote heads up Modular Racing which nobody besides me has done for the past 4 years.

Sals supported this race for 3 years now, and JL has shown total committment to it as well. I know Sal does not have a ton of money, and JL isn't about the money. They would race for nothing, just like John Mihovetz does. The Shootout purse is set, and Sal and JL can set their rules anyway they want or payout any way they want and I'll support them.

Cool Great answer Dave !!!

You're doing a great job putting this event again for all to enjoy, so keep up the good work... I'll be there again to help you out and enjoy myself like I've done the past 3 years.

JC

PS. Jim - We're are all hoping you can make it to the shoutout to race Sal and JL. Make it happen !!! The event doesn't need excuses, so if you don't want to make it just don't say anything negative please !!! And for the record, I use products on my L from all 4 major tuners/vendors, so I have no aliances to any of them !!!

I know there are one or two people on this board with big plans that are not tuners, that would maybe like to run for King Of The Hill. So here is what im thinking:

Bracket Class:
- No Nitrous
- Unlimited boost
- No weight limitations

Heads up Class:
- Nitrous
- Limited boost
- Limited weight

King of the Hill:
- Nitrous
- Unlimited boost
- No weight limitations
- Best 2 of 3

Tuner Shoot Out:
- Thier rules

Just a thought...

Dave, Sal, JL and Jim....

Working out the details here is ok.... BUT Lets keep the sniping of each other to a minimum

I think it would be great to see any one of these shoot out scenarios... Too bad it is a 48 hour commute...

I want it to be known that The Modular Shootout wants to offer the largest amount of money to the fastest Gen 2 Lightning trucks in the world. We will not settle for 2nd billing. If anyone out there would like to be apart of a 3rd class and or see the pot increase please email me at modular46@attbi.com
If anyone knows anyone that would like to back the class and sponsor it please contact me ASAP. We can't make this possible without backing.

My thinking is that we can let JL's class stand the way it is and then do a 3rd class open to everyone. The 3rd class would be a run what you brung class and be unlimited to what you can do as long as its a 2nd gen lightning truck. What ever JL wants to do with his class I"ll support it 100%. We need to act quickly to what we are doing though.

I'm open to any/everything. I am committed to doing something special for the Lightning trucks for the shootout.

Thanks
