Have you tried using your spare/second key?

The book says something about reprogramming a key but you need a good key that works first. Now, I wonder where my spare key is.

That's why you want your spare key --> you can't defeat the "passive anti theft" thing.

Sometimes one key will work, the other won't. A key can lose it's programming or the truck won't recognize the key because the truck's "P.A.T." programming got screwed up. Especially after messing with the truck's electronics. Try the spare key.

As a *last resort* try this:

Insert the key into the ignition. Turn ignition switch to ON/RUN either 5 or 7 times. Do this rather quickly. The door locks will go down then up. STOP turning the ignition switch. At this point the ignition switch will be in the OFF position. Leave the key in the ignition switch and wait 2 to 3 minutes. Then try to start the truck....

The above procedure resets some of the original settings...not sure if it will reset the "P.A.T." pain in the butt thing...

It sure sounds like that's the problem...the truck started once, then didn't start again...the dash is lit up, "anti-theft" light blinks...that's it. The P.A.T. thing is screwed up...

Question

Just installed my Swanson chip in last night and everything worked.
1 problem did occur though I did not have the PCM attached back to the inner wall so it was vibrating some. I tried to use the little black clip that held it against the wall and it worked so I thought that everything was perfect but then, IT WOULD NOT START. The theft light kept flashing just like yours. I could not figure it out to save my life. Needless to say that I pulled the clip back off so that thew PCM was away from the wall and within 5 seconds I turned the truck over and it started. I repeated this process one more time to see if this was actually the problem and it did the same thing. I do not know what happened but whatever it was it did not like to be fastened to the inner panel.
Just my 2 cents and I hope you get it to work.

crush69,

FYI..... I had a similiar problem, so after I figured out what I did wrong I took some 200 mile an hour tape(also know as duct tape) and taped the chip down. Tape it from side to side. You might do a search here on the board because there is something that explains how to install.

I had the same problem with the clip so it now resides in the glovebox. I just took some more 200 MPH tape and taped the PCM to it's bracket.

Hope this helps and remember if you have a problem call Danny, he will talk to you.

Dear Floyd91,

As I mentioned to you in email, you can give us a call, and we'll try to assist you.

I do have to say that all of the suggestions that the various people here who have been helping you are pretty much right on the money, in terms of things to look for.

I think you may have a chip in your ignition key that is fried, and if so, there is no getting around that, you'll need to either use your spare key, or get it in to the dealer.

You've already checked for proper connection, checked for bent pins in the wiring harness, and checked for proper tightness of the wiring harness connection to the front of the computer.

The key thing here is that the vehicle will not start after a battery disconnect with the chip removed. This indicates to me either a fuel pump not functioning, but more likely it's the chip in your ignition key.

The Superchip itself cannot *damage* anything, but if you jiggled the Superchip on the back of the computer with the ignition on, that *can* cause a problem with the computer and the PAT chip in your ignition key. You mentioned checking to see if it was connected, and if you moved the chip around on the computer's connector with the ignition on, you most likely will need to get it into the dealer to correct.

Obviously I'm kinda-sorta clutching for straws here, but when all else seems unlikely, you have to look at every possible scenario. We quote very clearly in the installation instructions to not even have your keys in the ignition during the installation procedure; if you moved the Superchip on the back of the computer with the ignition on, that *can* sometimes cause a problem. Which is exactly why we say not to have your keys in the ignition during installation, of course. I don't know if that occurred, but I wanted to mentin it just in case.

I don't get down into this section very often, but I would like to hear what the result turns out to be, so please do feel free to call us if you like, Floyd91.

Best of luck,

Thank you for the response, I called and spoke with you for a few minutes yesterday. My spare key does not work either. I did not have the keys in the ignition at the time of installation. I will go through everything, one last time, and if I can't get it, guess its time to go to the dealer, It's kinda like seeing the principal. I just really don't want to put my truck back to stock to have them tow it to the dealer.

Well, the truck was towed to the dealer. They now have my baby locked up. I guess we'll see whats up tomorrow. I also had them look at the damn squeek, and the leaky differential. I wonder if they would install my 3/4 drop which conveniently was delivered right as the truck was being towed away. On a better note, by girlfriend bought me one of those burago 1/8th scale lightnings very cool INdeed

After reading of your trouble and all the trouble of others trying to install chips and make them work right, and all the people who have returned chips numerous times, I sincerely wonder if the trouble is worth it. The electronics guy at my dealeship told me that all the wierdness that comes to him can all be traced to aftermarket chips. "put in chip and hold in place with tape". What a bunch of jerry rigging bullcrap. It will be interesting to see what your dealership says when they see you've been messin around with the PCM. My .02 worth.

Well, I'm kinda hoping that they won't notice that. The truck is still under a year old, and under 12,000 miles. It is still under warranty as of now. But....

Well I talked to the service tech today. Bad Bad Bad.... They told me that the wiring harness was burnt and needed to be replaced, also told me the computer was bad, and will need to be replaced. all in all this is costing me 620.00. And is no longer under warranty. They knew there was a chip installed. They pointed that out as being the problem. ? ? I don't know what to do. This got very expensive very fast. Mind you I am only 18 and this is the only vehicle I own. This will take 2-3 days to fix. Which is not bad, because one of those days is today. I guess I'm just rambling. But what do you guys think?
