I would like to hear any problems found that were fault of mine as they are saying.
The engine in Matts truck had piston slap from the get go he just didnt know what piston slap was or sounded like. The break in tune was pig rich. 2 clogged cats are proof.
The engine detonates any time you get on it. We have pulled timing out and ran 104oct. still it detonates. Hi compression? 8.9:1? Aggresive tune nope. Increadable shrinking pistons..??
I have the same 9mm dished pistons in my silver truckand never had any problems with detonation. We also have been using the same fuels? and I was running a 10# and 2# upper way more boost than his. I pushed my engine to its death drivin the snot out of it.
Matts engine will be inspected and documented soon as the new one is built

Wow. I thought I'd heard everything but SHRINKING PISTONS

If you were running way rich and getting incomplete combustion, excess fuel could wash down the bores and cause accelerated wear there.
That would cause Piston Slap.

according to my mechanic whos been doing it for 30 years..and his co workers who have no less than 20 years apiece..it was slap from the start. Bad thing here is I am just not up on all this stuff..

Are you sure it was piston shrinkage? I read this and thought it was cylinder expansion?

Clint, We have discussed your hesitation when you hit the throttle over and over again and again, Like i said before your over a 1000 miles away from my shop, youve had me along with other people tuning your truck, you had someone else do the work on it.. Your hesitation in the throttle has nothing to do with a BAD JLP motor!.. Like i said before, you have a vacum leak, fuel delivery problem,ect..I told you its hard for me (across the country) to properly diag. your tip in throttle problem with out me personally data logging, diag. ect. your truck here at the shop.We have sold now over 460 engines! we turn out almost 2 trucks a week out of the shop,I have had some be more finiky than others with heads, cams ect. but we have been able to tune them in perfectly 100% of the time!. Thats why i told you to get the truck to me and we'll see what the problem is.and see if we can get this tip in issue fixed. But when we just ship the engine out to customers, its hard to tell what is going on. we have had several trucks shipped to us after the customer had someone else install the engine and couldn't get it to run properly. you'll be surprised of some of the things we found. But once we got finished with it,they picked their truck up running 100%..And were very happy!,This is 1 of the reasons we @ JLP perfer customers to have thier trucks shipped to us so we can properly install, diag. dyno tune. We have our own transporter to helpWe always have their truck 100% Turn key for them!. I know this is very frustrating for you,and it would be for me too! But i need your truck here @ the shop to see why your having this problem...like i told you before i Know i'll get it fixed if its here @ the Shop....JL
OK, first off I would like to apologize to 415cid Goose, It was his thread I should have taken it to PM’s. 2nd to JLP I never should have mentioned him in the post. For that I am sorry. I hope both accept my apology.
The fact that the motor has ran for 6K miles on a tune where everytime I stab the gas and give it more than 35% load, it backfires misfires and falls on its face. I NEVER ONCE said you make a BAD motor. If anything your motor is indestructible. Even after all I have been thru I am still proud to say I have a JLP motor.
As far as you knowing what is wrong with my problem being a vacuum leak or a fuel delivery problem. WRONG 60 psi fuel on the dyno at WOT and vacuum at idle of 14-13psi. With the help of a few genius’s in the lightning community (RMFREEZE, RYAN ALLEN, FRANK5L, SHOCK THERAPY) They have figured out what is wrong and why it is doing it. It’s so simple what myself and rmfreeze had wrong with our trucks, that a certain tuner(to be named later) who I talked to OVER THE PHONE made it right, first try. My question to you JL is if you do so many engines (Quote 430) and 2 million in business a year, why can’t you tune them. Now we know for certain what was wrong, It wasn’t on your end with building the motor, wasn’t on my builders end that put the motor in. It was all in the TUNING. Im not going to bash you on a public forum, or sit here and be a keyboard cowboy, Ill tell you how I feel to your face at L fest. Im sure you have made more people happy than mad, that’s the key to running a successful business.

Your quote on the shipping is way off its an easy 1700 bucks from Oklahoma with your transport person. Funny thing was I told him Johnny lightning told me you would give me a special deal he just said “Johnny who? We don’t give special prices for him.”

Enough is Enough. Main thing is there are people on these forums NLOC F150 and Modular ford that do care about others. Then there are the few that just care about $$$$. Feel they have to come on here, sugar coat a problem just to save face. Its only a material possession, they come and go. Isn’t a big deal.

Once again this isn’t my post But I could type for days on how I felt I was treated. But then all that would come of it was a huge argument. Thread hijack… then it would get deleted probably. Or Ill get banned. No hard feelings JL, I understood where you stood with the shipping the truck to you.

Contact me on my email clintodell @ gmail.com or phone, if you have any othere comments. As this thread was not directed to you. I simply made the mistake of putting your name behind my pesky motor issues. Sorry for all you JLP lovers if I made you mad also.

How much for 3 power coolers. Cut me a deal. Since I didn’t get any lube with my motor purchase.. hahaha

Anyone who has spent thier hard earned money on something can definetly understand how you feel. Most of us who have been doing this a while have been through it at least once. As a consumer youre trusting someone to give you what you payed for and to uphold thier side and do as promised. Nothing hurts more than to recieve anything less than what was expected. On top of that trust in my belief, i feel that you expect to be treated well since you trusted them enough to give them your money. When that trust is broken you feel hurt, bitter and insulted and you express that pain the best way possible. I hope it works out for everyone and I wish you the best. I know how you feel so keep your head up and dont give up no matter how many people bash you for talking bad about thier favorite tuner or builder.

So the whole problem was tuning....You would think JL would have a handle on that especially since he has done thousands of tunes. I can feel your pain and can give you an expeirence about another Lightning God but will not go in to it here...Good luck..

Clint: I'm happy you got the truck running great! It was in my tune? Wow! I'm glad you guys figured it out. I Know your concerned for All of the Lightning owners just like myself. So Please explain to us what exactly the problem was in the tune, so i can understand and not have anybody go thru this again..I really thought it was a fuel tip in problem. thats what i was changing in the file. i guess i was wrong. For that i apoligize,I never claimed to be perect, but i did my best for you,Bottom line is your all fixed up and running great! .We would like to know what the problem was so none of us Lightning owners would have to go thru this kind of thing again...
