I think Jim called it a grudge match. IMO that means run what you brung. Who cares who has 4 link, tube that, turbo this, 4v, just race. Best time wins

As far as the 5 customer Lightning go I think racing at the same weight is a great idea..............

Of course now a days, there are MULTI full body Gen 1's that are now faster.

If you all see that as a Lightning, then the 3 Tuners L's
must be factory stock right

Seems to me the only fair way is to seperate the Big Three from the Customers and have "2" catogory's.

1-The Big 3 bring their Best 5 Customers Trucks,

2- "WE THE PEOPLE" get to see what the 3 tuners can do
WITH FULL WEIGHT CUSTOMER OWNED TRUCK'S
Winners of course get bragging rights
these races will be extremly interesting

3- The other Catogory is "The big 3 running each other"
NO RULES, NO WEIGHT RESTRICTIONS, WHO CARES IF THEY TRAILER IT. ANYTHING GOES, ALL OUT WHO CAN RUN THE BEST ET

this is what competition is all about

I commend the 3 of you for being professional and not getting
involved in the BS

MAY THE BEST MAN WIN
I knew I liked you for some reason...
I agree...The Big 3 get to run what they brung PERIOD!! There are to many variables between the trucks just to say lets add weight to make them even. Adding a turbo to an L no longer makes it an L if you want to get picky. Let the big 3 run whatever they want...If there scared then they should build something faster or stay home!!
Top 5 customer trucks should be ran a " full weight" or at minimum of 4,500-4,700# race weght. Trucks must meet NHRA safty rules and requirments.
what else could you ask for. One vendor will take the cake for an all out Fastest modular powered GEN 2 EVER and One or both will take the title of fastest GEN 2 Customer truck.

This has been tried a couple times and in my memory the big 3 have either never all shown up or never all 3 made it down the track.

I like JL's idea of doing it at LFest 05 - I think that a race like this would add something to the event BUT what are the chances of the 18 trucks we are all thinking abut being in one piece after next seasons racing ?

I also wonder about calling it Lightning racing ... Based on the rules discussed here you could slap a Lightning body on an NHRA Funny Car and compete ..... I know that none of the top 3 trucks look, are powered or weigh anything like mine. While the racing will be exciting - its not helping develop any technology the average owner can/will use.

All that said - If there is some way I can help - let me know.

BigD,

Glad to see LFEST 05 is a go. I actually hope to attend this year.

But to wait almost a YEAR for a grudge match is stretching it a little, actually a lot IMO.

By then will all be racing in different series and money and travel come into play besides you are giving too much time for people to have problems racing all year.

All 3 tuners are on the East Coast and the racing is the fastest when its colder.

But again , I will do my best to support whereever and whenever its going to be.

Hell in a year from now we can be putting rocket boosters on.LOL

on Rob's format but why limit the aftermarket participants to the 3 from NE? The central location makes sense but isn't Sept. in KC too hot for record et's?

Why wait till spring ?

The tracks are open now in Texas and will be through most of the winter.

If the racing is really about Lightnings and Lightning customers Texas has the biggest customer base.

Lets do it next week... LOL

I beg to differ on that one Doug, at least as far as my truck is concerned. I don't know if you looked at my truck at LFest, but it by far does not fit your description. Aside from the hood and roll pan, the body of my truck is stock. Aside from the roll cage, the frame of my truck is stock, and not one part of it has been removed or "lightened". The interior is 100% stock. I still have the factory bed cover, and factory rear slider. Still power everything. Still has A/C. Stock suspension with aftermarket shocks and traction bars. Stock brakes. As a matter of fact, the only thing really NOT found on an everyday Lightning, is the fuel cell, and my choice of power adder. Other than that, my truck is not really any different than any of these other daily driven 10 second trucks. And I intend to keep it that way.

I also don't want to race against a PIECE of a Lightning....

You really can't brag that you out ran so and so in your tube frame, 4 link, Piece of a Lightning.....Hell Johnny, while your at it why don't you put in a big block with twin turbos and a FAST system....See where I'm coming from??? Your truck just won't be impressive to your customers anymore b/c they will have to turn their truck into a race only vehicle to run your #'s....

My thoughts for the event...

End of Feb.

Trucks have to complete a 100 mile drive w/o refueling or raising the hood.

Stock Frame

Stock Suspension

5.4 block

All trucks must weigh the same. If anyone can't follow that then they must be SCARED!!!
I agree. The real love of the Lightning is how fast and streetable it is.

Sal I felt like yours was likley the closest. Its just that we have all seen the posers come on here or we see people who post pictures of an STX with Lightning badges. I guess what Im asking is what makes a lightning a lightning ? Is it the VIN ?

I always felt it was the powerplant and the body style - since those are the BIGGEST distinguishing factors. In the case of the top 3 - you have all gone away from the Modular 5.4, 2 valve, 330 cu in, super charged V8. One went turbo - one went 4 valve, one was stroked and lightened. So they all still have Lightning VINs and they still have most of the original body styling, but what makes it a lightning ??

Back on topic - Im helping Dwight with the Lfest 2005 website and Ill be happy to help with this event if I can ... Just let me know.

Either way it would be cool to see all 3 tuners at Lfest ...

For those of you guys complaining about 4 links and tube chassis, its obvious you've never driven a really fast car! If you're content with the fastest Lightnings running 10's, and some in the high 9's, than by all means keep your frame/suspension stock. However, a pickup truck frame and leaf spring rear suspension, is by far, the absolute WORST platform for building a fast racer short of building a dump truck. Why build a 1400hp motor and then run it through leaf springs? Thats crazy and stupid. Personally I like to go fast, not make excuses why so and so's truck isn't a real Lightning just because he smokes me at the truck. Don't talk trash about JL until you can actually beat him, I'm not talking about dyno racing either. Do you ever want to see a 7 second Gen2?...do you honestly think that caliber of performance can be reached in a 2.5 ton truck? Do you think a Gen2 will break 150mph in the 1/4 with stock truck underpinnings?
