With all do respect....Cecil isn't exactly a good representative for ET's either. Not everybody around the country has a down hill mine shaft with a tail wind to race on. ( Oopss did I say that )

I think LFest in September is a perfect example of what goes on in the real world.....if you can go fast there you can go fast anywhere.

Not a flame just some thoughts I've been keeping to myself for a while.

PS....My truck is a little under weight but the driver is over weight, I figure it all evens out

This would be awesome! I hope the three big tuners can reach an agreement on the rules. Weight seems to be the best way to equal things out. I can't wait to see this

And another thing....I gotta go with Sal on the weight deal, or at least something to keep the playing field level. I don't have a problem with Jims 4V 3.3 but I do have a problem with a tube frame....go figure.

I agree to a certain extent. Cecil is definately not like most tracks.

But what got this whole thing going was the thrill of the low E.T.s.

That is what gets people excited.

Besides I thought there was not going to be an LFEST in 05. Don't Flame. I just remember reading it on NLOC a while back.

Bottom line. Whenever and wherever it is I will do my best to be there to represent JDM.

This sounds like a good time.. If this is held somewhere central, I might be able to make it.... (That is, if Im on a team?)

I agree on the weight deal... My truck weighs 4,500lbs with me in it.. It would take a LOT of power to overcome a 600lb+ weight difference.. But, I dont have to worry about that either, as I dont think many customer trucks are sub-4,000lbs....

Its going to be hard to come up with a common meeting ground that the "big 3" are going to all agree on....

Going to be interesting to see how this all turns out Regardless, it'll be cool to watch all of the fastest lightnings throw down on the track at the same time..

Weight is definitely the proper equalizer -- if, as Jim posited, the goal is to see which tuner can produce the most reliable power.

Any fool can get out a blowtorch and grinder.

It would be great to see the Big Three get together and have some friendly competition. Maybe this would be an example for the minions to follow on these boards.

Great idea, Jim, and great responses Sal and Johnny. Feel the love.

Thumbs up LightningFest 2005!

Hello Vinnie and all,

LightningFest 2005 will be at Kansas City International Raceway (KCIR) and will be held on 23-25 September 2005. The track is east of KC Missouri, and just off I-70.

There will be 3 days of drag racing with a truck show on Sunday also. Our event hotel is across the street from H00TERS...so come one, come all!

Last year (2004) we had many trucks in the 9 second range and Johnny ran back to back 9.8x in the evening grudge racing.

Actually the Gen 1s are the fastest trucks running currently with multiple trucks in the 9 sec range. ...and some may even be in the 7-8 sec range this year?

So if you want to see real Lightning Racing and 150-200 Lightnings in one place, come to LightningFest 2005. KCIR is flat and ~700 feet above sea level.

Sorry I don't want to wait till Sept. I think the end of Feb/beginning of March is a good time. Good over all weather.
I also don't want to race against a PIECE of a Lightning....

You really can't brag that you out ran so and so in your tube frame, 4 link, Piece of a Lightning.....Hell Johnny, while your at it why don't you put in a big block with twin turbos and a FAST system....See where I'm coming from??? Your truck just won't be impressive to your customers anymore b/c they will have to turn their truck into a race only vehicle to run your #'s....

My thoughts for the event...

End of Feb.

Trucks have to complete a 100 mile drive w/o refueling or raising the hood.

Stock Frame

Stock Suspension

5.4 block

All trucks must weigh the same. If anyone can't follow that then they must be SCARED!!!

why not just ditch the trucks and just break out some engine dynos and see who scores the highest, that's the most accurate way to measure who has the most power

The way I see it, let's say that JL brings a gutted truck to the track and runs the lowest et. And let's say Sal (not to leave Jim out, just making an example here) runs a half second slower but runs full weight. Can't we all just accept that there are different strokes for differnet folks? A lot of people won't care so much that JL was the fastest because they aren't interested in running without a/c or rack and pinion steering (again, just as an example, not as fact), and meanwhile others aren't going to be interested in giving up blower whine or going for alternative induction methods. It's not better or worse, just different. Of course the person with the lowest e.t. is going to get a bit more recognition, but in the end it's NEVER going to be even. I say run whatever you got as long as it's a lightning.

However, were it me, and they decided to do the weight thing, i would show up with a biturbo diesal in the lightning with 4000 lbs of dead weight welded to the frame and take the cake.

I understand what your saying.....I dont have the answer myself.

Johnny has already stated that he is commited to his current engine program and will be concentrating on his truck to find ET improvements.

Jim has just listed an engine program that should put out enough power to rotate the earth so it probably wouldn't matter what his truck weighed.

Sal is a wild card....I know his truck is going to be stock weight because that is his style but if he gets his turbo program right he will show up with more power than Jim and he still has his nitrous system also.

So maybe its best to "butt-out" and let the chips fall where they may.....at LFest '05

Another advantage to waiting till september is time....it takes time to get this stuff together. 4 months really comes up quick when your trying to get your hot rod right and still take care of business.

I thinks its a great idea to have a get together
Getting everybody to agree on the rules, will be quite another thing. I am sure everybody watching will have different ideas on what a Lightning is.

Where's Michael Buffer when you need him?

You guys are a pissa, you ripped me apart when I said Jason Browns truck was no longer a L, and his is Chopped, Gutted, Stretched, 1/2 Plastic, and weighs in the 2,+
(2800 if I remember correct) I posted the specs a few weeks ago.
Of course now a days, there are MULTI full body Gen 1's that are now faster.

If you all see that as a Lightning, then the 3 Tuners L's
must be factory stock right

Seems to me the only fair way is to seperate the Big Three from the Customers and have "2" catogory's.

1-The Big 3 bring their Best 5 Customers Trucks,

2- "WE THE PEOPLE" get to see what the 3 tuners can do
WITH FULL WEIGHT CUSTOMER OWNED TRUCK'S
Winners of course get bragging rights
these races will be extremly interesting

3- The other Catogory is "The big 3 running each other"
NO RULES, NO WEIGHT RESTRICTIONS, WHO CARES IF THEY TRAILER IT. ANYTHING GOES, ALL OUT WHO CAN RUN THE BEST ET

this is what competition is all about

I commend the 3 of you for being professional and not getting
involved in the BS

MAY THE BEST MAN WIN
