Did anyone read about the new Shelby Mustang Super Snake? The best power version will come with a KB rated at 725HP. I don't think the KB will die anytime soon when it's the best power adder Shelby will put his signature on.

Carol Shelby is a money grubbing egotistical old man with absolutly zero knowledge of the modern automotive industry other than how to make a buck and spread his name. He should be hailed for his cars of the 60's, but that was a long long time ago. Hit the showers Carol!!!!

As much as I hate to, I have to agree. I saw the episode of Rides where the new Shelby Cobra concept cart was being developed, and he just shuffled in and agreed with everything that the engineers has done. Back in his day, be would have fussed over everything.

But I have such tremendous respect for his past that I'm not willing to call him names now.

Ha, ha! You must have read this months article; "$helby, Snake Oil Salesman" in C & D or MT... can't recall???

They go into detail about his business dealings including his charity which takes in but hasn't given out in years...

I wonder how many people would have paid 30K over list for the GT-500 if it had been called what was intended until 2005 as an SVT Cobra.

Remember those wonderful Shelby/Omni 024 Chryco machines from the 80s?:o

He very well might be all of those things but he has done more in his life to further the automotive performance market then any other enthusiast. If Ford asked you if it was ok to pay you to put your name on a Mustang, would you at the ripe old age of 80+ even care one bit about what some 22 year old engineer told you? We should all be lucky to live the life that man has but if you want to be the little barking dog on the porch and call him names on an internet forum, then have at it, the big dogs will be out running.

Later...
Bruce

Bruce, I am deeply involved with the $helby community... trust me, you have no idea... Carroll has made some recent decisions that have soiled his name forever. He has lost a huge majority of the people who've supported him for 40 years.

My point exactly but your too thick to see what I'm saying. At 80 years old and after an incredibly disdingushed carreer, he doesn't need money and he doesnt need fame. The only thing he has is is respect and he is selling it for pennies on the dollar! He is just about bankrupt in that department.

I don't see the issue, cars while maybe a passion for him was a business. How he made a living, guy is just turning a penny same thing everyone one of us do when our alarm clock goes off each day. Just because he is 80 does not mean he can not make money anymore? maybe he will live to 100 and he is saving up for his prostetic 3rd leg so he can have fun with some 20 yr old girlfriend..

Tom, the problem is, people don't know the real Carroll. This is a man who turned his back on his own cars in the 70s, then when he saw everyone making money selling replicas in the 80s and 90s, tried to sue everyone under the sun for making money off the cars he cast aside. All these years, he's supported SAAC (Shelby American Automobile Club), which has been around since the mid 70s. He's been quoted prasing SAAC and all there hard work over the years. Now, he's got his own club, and wants to squash the "competition". He is sueing SAAC and wants SAAC dissolved, and is demanding the 30 years of records that SAAC has complied for his own use. Basically, Carroll is starting his own club, and wants everyone else out of his sandbox.

So the reality is, that Carroll himself is sueing the people who've supported him and his cars for over 40 years. How would you feel if Carroll was your hero and you were proud to own a Shelby, and now the man himself is against you?

Sal,
I hear what you are saying and I know you are a huge shelby fan and know a hell of allot more that what I do for sure. However, If you take your personal feelings out of it and look at it from a business perspective, there is nothing wrong with what he is doing. He is just a business man trying to make some coin. There are no friends in business. It might be viewed as screwed up by most but it is nothing different than any other business trying to cut out the competition. And from what I have read and seen on TV this is nothing new for carroll, he has been cut throat since day one.

I agree that business is business, but you don't cut off your nose to spite your face. It's not good business to turn on your own people.
