HID help please

Hey guys,

Haven't posted in a while. I'm thinking about putting HIDs in my projector heads as well as my fogs. I have an 04 FX4 and I already know the headlight bulbs are H1s and the fogs are H10s but I need to know what exactly I need to get. I have been using ddmtuning.com which is a lot of guys on hear have used to purchase HIDs, and I have decided on 5000k for both the head and fogs but do you recommend the 35w or 55w lights and what type of ballasts I would need. Thanks a lot guys

Those heads aren't really made for hids.. If you want great output do a retrofit with good hids, not cheap pnp chinese ones. But good luck with whatever you decide on.

no. dont put HIDs in non HID housings. As much as youd like to think, your "projector" headlights are not designed for HIDs, and quite frankly probably have less light output than OEM. Secondly, why would you put 5000k HIDs in fog lights?????? The whole point of a FOG light is to cut through the fog. That is done using a halogen light. If you use a bright blue HID it is only going to reflect off of the fog and make it more difficult to see. if your response is that you are doing this to look cool (which is the only plausible reason) then goodluck, I will laugh at you when I see you driving

I wish a lifetime of bad karma on any arsehole that puts HID bulbs into projector housings. Do it right or leave them alone. All oncoming traffic thanks you.

Fair enough guys, excuse my limited intelligence about the lighting. Any recommendations for better bulbs in the heads and fogs though?

stock headlight housings and a quality set of bulbs. i prefer piaa. have to order online and usually close to 100 bucks, but its worth it imho. some people also are into silverstars, ive just never been that impressed. just run a plain jane bulb in the fog. also take any tint off of the head or fog housing. HIDs just should not be done unless it is in a proper retrofit. here is a thread with good info for you though

Triton, I moved your thread here. You may get a bigger variety of responses. But, I agree with the advice to not put HIDs into non-HID housings. They won't focus properly.

You should just stick with a name-brand halogen bulb for your heads and fogs. Those projectors are designed for halogens only and will be too tight a beam for HIDs- it'll blind people when you crest them. Check out the Philips XtremePowers, best bulbs out there, IMO

I am the anti-SilverStar, I find that the film on the lense degrades too quickly and ruins the light output, plus they don't last long and they're spendy (its a light bulb.....)
I run Sylvania XtraVisions in a stock housing with no issues and excellent lighting....my fogs are also factory spec. Also don't do a bulb swap on your fogs, if you have plastic housings or lenses they will melt, multiple threads on that. HID's in stock or "projector" headlight assemblies are just for looks and pissing off other drivers.
