Fog Light Modification

Hi guys, i just installed HID fog lights. They work and look great. Just was wandering how i can get them wired in my factory switch to run without the headlights. I would prefer to be able to have them come on when the parking lights are on. Is this possible? I did a similar "mod" with a dodge neon that i had and it only required splicing two wires together, is that possible with the F150 also? My truck is a 2002 Harley Edition...just as a reference. Thanks for any info.

I have 6000k HIDs in my round fogs, they are retro solutions with capped ends. Surprisingly very little glare, never high beamed. I can't wait to get retrofits at some point so I can safely enjoy high quality output from the headlamps!

If I wasn't such a wimp about hacking into wiring I would love to add a manual operating fog switch so that my fog lamps only could turn on with everything else off. Makes a nice DRL and the amber parking lamp glow kills the look.

Darren, the tips only account for about 20% of the total glare, but since you know better, I'll save you the embarrassment of throwing the FMVSS sec.108 book into your forehead

HIDs produce a crap-ton of glare, especially in fog lamps.

I did this mod back when I had my 2003 FX4. I remember it being pretty easy but ya gotta take your time when making the cuts in the plastic ramp. If I remember correctly, it can also allow you to run the fogs with highbeams. One thing I did "for off road use only" was to put 9005 bulbs in the factory fogs. Those things were awesome on the two tracks of Northern Mich..

I did not modify the ramp. I just spliced the wires. My fogs run now whenever the park lamps are on. I went with a 3000k light so that the beam has more of a blue tint than a "burn out your corneas" bright light. I don't believe the glare is too significant with the lower intensity output.

I hate to bring up and old thread but what did you use to splice the wires together?

Dan, 3000K is yellow, it doesnt have any blue at all. And yes it will still cause glare since you put it in a halogen housing

My bad, I put the 3000k ones in my Camry. The F150 had, and don't quote me, I think 10000k. They were definitely blue. They r no longer in it. The kit was junk and the ballasts went bad.
