Question **Projector Retrofit Questions**

I have decided to do the HID Projector Headlight Retrofit for my 2003 F150 KR Super Crew...

Mostly, I don't really know the specifics...

I know everyone seems to like the theretrofitsource.com for everything, but I have NO IDEA what I need. I want a good and good looking unit but I don't know where to start looking.

Also, I know most people usually use the Lightning style headlights. My question here is, my headlights are the special (STX I think?) ones made for the King Ranch, I want to know if I can do the Retrofit with the stock housings instead of buying the Lightning Housings.

As far as HID's, I want very very bright but without the blue in it...I was thinking around 4000K? But I know this also depends on Watts, 35W 55W watever...i have no idea.

I am also thinking about putting in the clear corners with Switchback LED's in them...is anything special required for this? Plug and play or plug in with a little wire splicing?

ANY help with my questions would be awesome, prices, places etc.

*Finally*- Projector HID fog light retrofit? Done it? Possible? What I need for it?

Thanks!!

If your housings are clear they will work. $75 bought me new lightning housings and corners on Amazon. As for the kit, the FX-R is the most popular due to its superior performance. For looks you can get any shroud they offer. As far as brightness and color, 4300k is basically pure white and about the brightest. The 55watt will put out just a bit more light then the 35watt. But its not a big difference. Each kit comes with everything you need. Switchback turn signals I think require resistors or they will blink fast. Raptor will tell you how they work. Just visit their site for prices.

To answer you on your stock housings.....get the lightning style ones.....the clear lenses will not obstruct the projector pattern like the ones you currently have would....

4300k white-5000k slight blue tint....

There's a thread already started about retroing fogs for your year truck.... https://www.f150online.com/forums/il...ght-retro.html

Okay I'll give it a shot.

1) how mechanically inclined are you? Do you feel comfortable hacking holes into the reflector with a dremel and aligning the projectors using bolts and Epoxy cement? If the answer is yes, go for the FXR stage 3 kit. If the answer is no, go with the MiniH1 kit using 9007 adapters. Any factory housing should work just fine as long as it has clear lens. If you have fluted lenses, look for something with clear lens.

2) For color, I recommend 4300k for you if you want no blue. Due to the clear lens on these projectors, you will have slight blue color flicker at the cutoff, but with 4300k it will be minimal and the actual output color will be OEM white like you see on mercedes and Lexus, etc.

3) Fogs: leave them Halogen. Possible to retrofit? Yeah, I did it. Worth all the work and effort? If you really want the looks, then yes. But from a pure performance standpoint, it isn't necessary.

^^ agreed. You wont benefit from hid fogs much. Not worth the effort IMHO. The Hid projectors will put out all the light you need... and then some. My fogs are 8000k.. purely for looks.

Mine are Clear lenses, they are the STX or whatever ones, specially made for KR edition trucks, different from regular 150's. I learned this from Raptor.

Thanke for the Fog Light thread

I have seen the FX-R 3 kit and the FX-R 4 kit...whats the diff besides the $95 price diff? Is the FX-R4 worth it?

Also, I may just be looking at it at the "right" time, cause it says the FX-R 3 is on sale so maybe that's why it is less?

An by no means am I doing this myself, at least the actual install...I can do the wireing tho.

Also...CCFL Angel Eyes or not? Or just totally prefrence? Anyone got any pics?

Best Shroud? I Like the Gatling Gun 2.0 the best...but it's not an option with the Kits so just regular Gatling Gun...

And what wiring harness do I need/want?

Basically...can someone got to the website and go to the FX-R 3 and/or FX-R4 Kit page and tell me what to select in the options boxes?

Sorry, I really have NO IDEA about hardly any of this lol...THANK YOU FORUM'S!!!

CCFL's are a preference. I have em on my MC-R shrouds. I like them. No pics of them at night though.

I know yours are considered "clear", they still have diffusers in the plastic lenses.....the lightning ones are what I consider clear with no diffusers......

The FXR stage 4 comes with OEM ballasts and OEM Phillips bulbs. The OEM ballasts are excellent quality but not waterproof, where the Morimoto ballasts from the stage 3 kit are 100% waterproof and much better suited for use in a truck.

Who is going to do the install?

The horizontal lines do not mess with the projector cutoff if what is what you are referring to. The biggest concern would be opening the permasealed Visteon units and cutting up unicorns

I trust your opinion above most all...so...Can the retrofit be done with my housings?

I'll get a more upclose pic of them tomorrow.

Yes they can. But it will be more difficult than if you used L housings.

This is ford4life's retrofit in his Visteon housings

The lines are an earlier version of "squirrel spotters". They are designed to refract a little bit of light vertical to light up road signs and animal eyes. While only one line crosses through the projector beam, it wont bother the beam pattern.
