this just makes me sick
For NCSU: Yes, you've pointed out a huge inconsistency in many Christians' lives, divorce. God permitted divorce in the Old Testament, but Jesus made it very clear that divorce was against God's will in His teachings. I a married two years ago, at age 21 knowing the depth of the commitment I was making. For richer or poorer, better or worse, in sickness and in health, til death do us part.
These weren't intended to be metaphorical or figurative words to make people feel mushy, they are intended to be taken literally. I intend to remain faithful and married to my wife for all of my life. Unfortunately, the divorce rate is as high, or higher among those in the church "Christians" compared to those outside the church.
Note though, that God permits divorce in the event of adultery. No marriage can survive multiple acts of adultery with different sexual affairs.

This Bible passage goes for anyone, not just Christians, and we can all relate.
Matthew 7:5
Hypocrite! First get rid of the log in your own eye; then you will see well enough to deal with the speck in your friend's eye. (New Living Translation)

Not a fan of the NLT but the message is important
I guess that is why Bubba tries to mount his celly in the joint!!!
The one thing that everyone keeps doing is quoting The Bible and I find humor in one thing. First it wasn't originally written in English so I am sure some things are lost in translation. Second is that it was written by man who supposedly got the information from God.
Now man tends to put his own spin on most things he does. Ten of us can all see the same event and we are likely to get ten different accounts of it.
That said, I am sure many of the biases of the day come through in the writings put forth in the Bible.
Further we see lots of violent acts described in the Bible but I remember a while back people chastising the Muslims for the text of the Koran. They both paint some pretty dark pictures of humanity.
I understand religious people being against homosexuality. Most religions frown on it. That said, we as a country are not a theocracy. Our belief system is that church and state are separate.
Our Constitution is written with some vagueness but it does declare no set religion is to be honored or supported by the government. This is pretty clear to me.
Our government was established to be a representative republic, not a democracy...thankfully. If we were a democracy then the dominant group wins and the rest can pound sand.
Most Americans perceive themselves as Christians in one way or another. That said, certainly we all have different perceptions of what that means.
Some feel that it is all about good deeds and not doing evil. Others feel they have to take a literal approach to the Bible. Who is right? I don't know.
I guess if we find ourselves burning in the flames of Hell then we will know we screwed up!
I just can't recall instances in the Bible where Jesus rejected people or chastised them for their actions or beliefs. If anything he was understanding and all inclusive.
He doesn't make you do anything. Your following is of free will. I have a hunch that JC would say, do what you want but this is what God wants.
Let people decide their path for themselves. We don't need government to tell us every step in our lives.

Cyclical argument on this board.
Yep, isn't life simple when you just follow the same rules you want to apply to yourself?
It had a good run of ~4000 years... Too bad, it seems to work so well.
Guess logic of what do you have to lose, applied to this was lost on some.
Let's try the joke analogy, let them get married, they have just as much right to be miserable as straight people.
Other religions are wrong. Anything that deviates from teachings in the Bible is wrong. Islam? False. Buddhism? False.
That statement is pure religious intolerance. If that's what you believe, you have no grounds for accusing Muslims of being intolerant, that would be totally hypocritical.

Im absolutely intollerant of other religions. I want nothing to do with them, but I have no hatred toward the people who practice them. I dont think they should be exterminated or anything.
Do your research on how Islam, Buddhism, and any other false religion. Find out how they started. Who started them. Where. Every religion hits a dead end except for Christianity.

So Obama is no different than 99% of so-called Christians who live in adultery, use contraception, worship false Gods, etc.....
Many are called but few are chosen.
