what happened to country music?
Empty Glass is one of my favorites.

I think the big issue is this, old country kind of faded out in the late 90's and the pop rock crowd drifted to new country due to the upcoming rap music scene, the record companies compounded this by flooding the market with new country artists until we were at the point we are at now, they push them thru so quick they all kind of seem the same.
I am almost 50 and in the past, I was into Journey, Boston, Eagles, etc. Today in my truck you will find Jamie Johnson, Jason Aldeen, B&D, Paisley, Dirks Bentley, Chesney, Shania, Keith Urban, Sugarland, and some Darius Rucker too among others. I have been lucky enough to see the majority of these in concert at least once and I have always said; These shows aren't real country, their pop rock with some steel guitar or a lil twang thrown in, I enjoy them none the less but I do agree real country is kind of out the lime light these days.
BTW- I heard some one say something about an IDOL winner, Carrie Underwood is an incredible talent and I have seen her live more than once, she is in the Grand Old Opry for one reason: she is talented and she is the real deal folks, like it or not how she got there, she is a class act, one of the few of today's crowd, IMHO.
The King is, and IMHO always will be; George Strait, Garth is good but to me, he is a lil out there since he made it to the top, he kinda has the deer in the headlights look anymore, millionaire or not.

Jason Boland
Wade Bowen
Reckless Kelly
Eli Young Band
The Great Divide
Johnny Cooper
Mickey and Motorcars
Robert Earl Keen
Jamey Johnson
Dierks Bentley (i was already listening to him)
Zac Brown Band

I couldnt agree more, George Strait still continually makes hits and is still as humble as ever...Garth is too commercialized. I have always thought Kenny Chesney was going to be the next king, and after seeing him in concert I have reinforced that thought 100%...he is truly a talented artist and performer
Garth to me kinda brought upon this "newer" stlye country. I mean think about Ain't going down...considered country but is it really? I mean you have the electric guitar and really fast paced song. Garth is awesome..possibly the best country song ever was sang by him, that being "The Dance". Garth is amazing, George is amazing as well. Garth, George, Alan JAckson...you cant go wrong there!
[QUOTE=thejake1989;3768219]cant go wrong with some robert earl keen, ccr, reckless kelly, and jason boland[/QUOTE
Hell Yeah NASHVILLE SUCKS!!! And Rascal Flatts, what a bunch of ****.

I like this thread, I fought with my girlfriend so many times telling her that Rascal Flats, Keith Urban, Little Big Town, ect. are just a bunch of boy band members that put cowboy boots on and now there country when really there just pop music I cant stand it when they play them on the radio it drives me crazy having to listen to guys that sound like girls. But im always going to keep listening to Josh Turner, Dierks Bentley, Garth Brooks, Kenny Chesney, George Strait, and Alan Jackson there true country music singers in my opinion.
I HATED rascall flatts for the longest time. But now that I've heard them on the radio so much I don't really mind them. Still don't have any of their stuff on my ipod, don't plan to get any either.
Some of the contemporary artists are garbage, but some are fine with me. Toby Keith and Trace Adkins are performing live together locally on my 21st birthday this summer, I'm pretty excited.
I guess country music had to evolve with the modern times and these new artists are the result...
Look at the original country of the early 1900's and see how it has evolved over the past 100 years..I grew up listening to Slim Whitman and the like but never really got into that music..
In today's standards, Elvis would be country but he was crowned the "King of Rock and Roll."
Def Leppard who have definately seen their better days are now with the country crowd??? The Eagles are on CMT all the time??? Who's next I wonder??
The cross between country and pop is getting closer and closer..
Thank the new generation for that-Nashville can only make money if the music sells and the country of yesterday doesn't sell..
I do, however like most of the women of country-Reba, Shania and Martina are some of the few with class, the young ones are almost too trashy for my taste.

They're just ramming female coutnry artists down the throat lately. There's tons of them that I've never heard of and they all pretty much suck. It's horrible. I didn't grow up on the old Country like some of you did. I like the newer stuff but realize it's not what it used to be. However, even I can see it's changing again right in front of us. For some reason, it became the thing to do. Go country. I feel like a lot of it has to do with the fact that country fans are more loyal to sales than other genres that get constantly downloaded and never purchased.
even though the modern artists arent favorable they do have a few good songs i like.
for example
Randy Houser : boots on. thats a pretty good song lol, makes me smile every time since it reminds me of myself.
