Good luck. I've been tracking it. They sure don't really know where it's going to hit. The computer models are all over the place.

Im in Houston and have reservations for a hotel Mon-thur in San Antonio. I don't want to leave, but I have a feeling I might have to. If I wait till the last minute to see if it changes course the roads will be too packed. This sucks

Better to be prepared, even if it's a miss.

how do you think new orleans is going to make out so far on its projected path as of now?

I hear the Levys aren't finished yet in new orleans, somewhere around 2011 they will be done.

In '05 I stayed put through Rita in the Cleveland, Texas area. (Just north of Kingwood/Humble by about 25 miles) It wasnt a bad storm at all. Some wind and some rain. But for a week +1 day after the storm we had no water or electricity. That was absolutely miserable.

This storm promises to set Louisiana on its ear once again. The predicted path and strength shows a CAT 1 hurricane as far inland as Natchitoches, La. In fact, we are expecting and preparing for the TS fallout all the way up here, 300 miles from Galvestion.

FYI: As an employee for Texas Parks and Wildlife, I received an email which states among other things: "You are authorized to waive fees for visitors who are evacuated from coastal areas due to impending hurricane Gustav."

So what this means is that anyone displaced due to the storm will not pay for entry/camping fees in any Texas State Park. This wavier does not apply to cabins however. So for those not wanting to plop down hundreds for hotels and you have a camper or even a tent come an see us. We will be glad to put you up in the campground (space permitting).

Best of luck to you all in the path of this storm. Stay safe, make wise decisions, and above all don't take any chances.

Stealth, thanks for the link. Looks like us Floridians avoided Gustav, but Hannah is headed our way!

Looks like NOAA is still showing it going in just west of N.O. We're hearing that it will reach Cat5 tomorrow but weaken before it hits to a Cat2. Either way, take cover, make sure you have LOTS of drinking water, and LOTS of packaged food and candy. My mother would always fill the bath tub with water just before a major storm. She was not about to do without water. I can assume PawPaw is getting out. I think he said he was west of N.O and close to the coast- not a good place to be. Here's NOAAs take on land fall:

The one that bothers me the most is Hanna. She's wandering around just like Katrina did before exploding on the Gulf Coast. I have a bad feeling about that one.

Meh, the NOAA cone of uncertainty, they base all their estimates on the computer models. The models are starting to get very different results now, therefore they are more uncertain than ever. That's why Katrina was so bad, NOAA really blew it on forecasting that one.
