Hurricane Gustav
Last time you might hear from me for awhile guy's, I secured what I could around the house today and getting ready to roll up to Baton Rouge in the morning. My daughter and my future son-in-law secured the camp down in Grand Isle. We are going to covoy up there in the morning, I'm leaving my truck at my house and taking the wife's Honda Odessy to make it more comfortable for my 86 yr old mom that we are taking. For Katrina we took the truck but it was a little to hard for them to get in and out of. I just built a new house close to Lockport which is close to Houma and Terrebonne Bay right where the storm is due to come in. I'll try to keep ya'll posted what happened in the next few days.
ConocoPhillips down near Bay City has already released workers for the weekend, since they dont know what the strom will do. Being here at school in DFW, I dont have to worry about it, but the rest of my family aleady has a hotel reserved in Columbus for them to stay in, since my dad volunteered for the "first back on site" job. thanks ConocoPhillips!
just made the normally 4 hour drive to san antonio in about 6 or 7.
im about ready to rip my hair out. i had hurricane rita problems my freshman year, and now on my senior year to tie it all in we have this PITA.
hopefully everyone is safe, and evacuation isnt too hard.

Hey dirty88, is that Columbus, Tx? That's where I grew up. I remember many many years ago when hurricane Alan came in. We all sat in the Dairy Bar parking lot and watched the bumper to bumper traffic of people heading north.
Better write that down so I don't forget. Looks like N.O. is going to get the worst of it, Houston looks to be out of the direct path but we will still get some nasty rain and winds. If everything stays in line with the predictions I am going to stay here and ride it out. Should know more tomorrow.
In '05 I stayed put through Rita in the Cleveland, Texas area. (Just north of Kingwood/Humble by about 25 miles) It wasnt a bad storm at all. Some wind and some rain. But for a week +1 day after the storm we had no water or electricity. That was absolutely miserable.
This storm promises to set Louisiana on its ear once again. The predicted path and strength shows a CAT 1 hurricane as far inland as Natchitoches, La. In fact, we are expecting and preparing for the TS fallout all the way up here, 300 miles from Galvestion.
FYI: As an employee for Texas Parks and Wildlife, I received an email which states among other things: "You are authorized to waive fees for visitors who are evacuated from coastal areas due to impending hurricane Gustav."
So what this means is that anyone displaced due to the storm will not pay for entry/camping fees in any Texas State Park. This wavier does not apply to cabins however. So for those not wanting to plop down hundreds for hotels and you have a camper or even a tent come an see us. We will be glad to put you up in the campground (space permitting).
Best of luck to you all in the path of this storm. Stay safe, make wise decisions, and above all don't take any chances.
yeah we have about 6 cases of water so we are good on that and we also got bread crackers and snack like food...i stayed through rita and it was miserable without power we got water in like a day and a half...but since we got a generator and just bought a window a/c unit a couple of hours ago i feel better about staying but im hoping our house stays safe...

Guys, I really hate to post this, but I may be stuck in Slidell. With the current path and track of the storm, this will be the worst hit (storm surge/wind). I need out and have no where to go. Anyone willing to open a door for the Sunday and maybe Monday night for me and my buddy chris (2 golden retrievers can stay in the truck) we are really clean and chill would be a godsend.
If you would possibly be able to or could do something please call/text 985 285 6469. AGAIN I REALLY HATE ASKING LIKE THIS. But Im getting a bit worried, it blew up WAYY exceeding what we figured.
