The rebel flag just means southern pride to me. I can understand why people get so angry about it, but they don't understand the flags meaning to southern people. That is why I don't like the new dukes of hazard movie, when they are getting on the freeway and everyone is yelling at them, then they act like they didn't know it was on there and they are ashamed.

Yeah that is stupid as hell. Its the General Lee anyone with any since would know its gotta have a flag on thier somewhere. If my truck was red instead of Charcole I'd paint the Flag on my hood and tailgate

in a word i guess, heritage.
in hind sight, i feel mexicans and black's up north here are the racist ones. i rarely hear the n word, or the slew of mexi slang's, but if theres a confrontation of any kind. its really hard to hold my tongue when all i hear is redneck, hick, hillbilly, honky etc. thats when i think about a pump shotgun.

It's all BS...you know that flag is gonna ruffle some feathers. It means something to you and it means something COMPLETELY different to others. Thats just how it goes.

Honestly, I was raised not to like black people. Thats how my dad was raised, and his dad, and his dad, and so on. I have black friends and everything, but most of the time its is the way some people were raised. I'm proud of my heritage and up bringing and I'm not afraid to say thats how I was raised.

As far as the rebel flag I own one, it was handed down to me by my maternal grandfather. I keep it put away in a safe place.
Do you realize that the percentage of population that owned slaves was kinda small. Most of the people that fought for the south did so because they were led to believe the Yankies were their enemy. The south would have been a weak nation and not even comparable to the nation we live in today.
The industrialist of the north treated their workers no better and at times not as well as slave owners did in the south. That was because slave owners took good care of their property.
The mistakes made as the result of emancipation was leaving the newly freed slaves without the proper education to fend for themselves. That was the fault of carpetbagers that came to the south to run our state government.
In todays society if someone does not take care of themelves it is because they are lazy and want free handouts. Everyone is offered the chance for an education and a job.

All right, before I start, this isn't meant to offend anyone who reads it. It is just something that happened to me the other day that really rubbed me the wrong way.
I don't know how any of you feel about other races, but I am not trying to get anyone to voice their opinions. What is offensive to some might not be to others and I understand that.
Now that I'm done pre-apologizing.
A few days ago, I went to Wal-Mart like I always do to meet friends and see who all is in town. I live in a small town and there isn't much to do. I had one of my good buddies with me; We were just kickin' it Southern Style. Tearin' through the parking lot, music blaring, windows down, shorts and boots, wasting gas, and staying out of the heat. I turned down the aisle and pulled in a space. I turned around and looked behind me and the ***-end of my truck was stickin' out in the lane. So I pulled up a little more and a little more until I see the car in the space in-front of me rock. I immediately thought great now not only do I have to spend money on my truck, but I gotta fix this lady's car, too. I backed up and got out and looked at the front of my truck and the lady's car. Nothing was messed up. My dixieland tag was bent so I bent it back and checked the lady's front end some more. I apologized and she told me it wasn't her car and to wait for the owner. Then she got down and looked at her front end and the mine. When the dixieland tag got in her line of site, all hell broke loose. She started screaming and yelling. Calling me a racist and saying the only reason I hit her was because she was "An old black woman" So the Wal-Mart Security guard rolled up and heard our stories and told her there was nothing she could do because there were NO damages. Then the owner comes out. She had some sense... I thought so I apalogized again and went on about my business. When I came back out, they all three jumped in thier care and started backing up. I thought aww hell here we go another parking lot brawl over my truck, or it is keyed all the way to hell and back. I ran up and got the tag number and she got out and started demanding I fixed the little plastic thing where the tag can go on the front. So I crouched down, and bent it back, but then she said her bumper was messed up too. I don't have a brush guard or anything to mess up her bumper. So the Security guy told me to leave. I did, but never did the "n-word" come from my mouth to any of them or around them. I don't see why they automatically think a rebel flag means a cross-burning white boy is gone hop out the truck.
Any comments?

I'm new here, but I would like to chime in with my two cents. First, I'm a 43 year old african american, yankee too...born and raised right outside Chicago. I currently live in the Dallas/Ft. Worth, Texas area, and I'm married to a white woman, whom I met here here in the metroplex area. Wow that's three strikes against me already and I haven't gotten to my two cents!
I just want to say, that I feel it was wrong for the people to "go off" on you as you state only after seeing your rebel flag. However, being in the african american way, I can relate to/understand the reason(s) why they did. To the african american that symbol, rather flag is a symbol of hatred towards african americans, lynching, and slavery. You have every right to be proud of it, display it to your liking, but DO NOT deny the negative associated with the flag. As another poster mentioned, you have to take the good with the bad that comes with that flag.
That old lady, in her lifetime, may have first hand knowledge of the bigotry associated with your flag. Cut her some slack, she's an old lady. I'm very glad to hear you were respectful although they were not.

I know it is wrong for them to flip out over something that really is not that big of a deal, but are you surprised??
Now I understand that I have absolutly zero knowledge of how that flag makes AAs feel, I just don't understand. Slavery is over, was it a dark and tragic part of American history, yes. But I'm not sure what else we can do to try and make up for it, and no matter what it will not be enough.
