Let's start over......
I usually let mine drain for 30 minutes minimum and even at that point there is usually a drip coming out every 10 seconds or so -- probably as the oil slowly works its way down from the topside of the engine. Probably overkill but oil changes are one of my rare chances to putz in the garage so I am usually in no hurry!
Changed the oil in the '08 Taurus for the first time this afternoon -- you'd be hard pressed to find an easier car to do a change on based on where the oil plug and filter are located. The only thing I would change is that the filter and plug are just a tad too far apart to drain simultaneously into my oil pan -- had to use two pans to make sure I didn't make a mess on the garage floor!
Also replaced the blower motor resistor on the Cavalier today -- been driving around without a "low speed" fan for the past year or so and it was starting to bug me. My aunt must have had this done while she owned the car as I noticed the back screw on the old resistor was not threaded all the way back in. When I went to install the new resistor I figured out why -- that thing is a serious "booger" to get to no matter what combination of u-joints and extensions you use! Let's just say my new unit has one less screw in it than what it came with from the factory.....
I let it sit there all day and get every drop out, then pour a little dawn dish soap in there to get it clean
I see your point also, but I don't think your math is quite right. 4 quarts on a Pan drop and it's a 12 quart system. So that's only 33 percent (+ or -) new and the rest is still old.

I haven't done a 6R80 yet, but on my 4R70 I would drop pan, and loosen valve body down, and I'd get about 8 or 9 qts out of it
I just went and bought a tub of chew. It's been $12 and some change forever. Today it was almost $23
sounds like a good time to quit

yup, same with snuff. I've worked all the way down to Longhorn because of price but now its almost 5 bucks a can, 2 or 3 cans a week. It adds up, Lol. Got a can of Cope Snuff last week just to change it up and it was 6.80.
A few days ago i let the SIL drive the 99 Mercedes since her car has a bad tire, she tried to do a good dead and filled it up for me, only thing is she put regular in it not knowing and it requires supreme. Ever since then ive been having to baby it, Starts pinging over 3k rpm, running a little rough. Fuel mileage is also crap which is a good thing so i can burn the half a tank of 87 out of it. its hard to drive it under 3k cause the little v6 likes to rev to get up to speed. hopefully another 3 days or so and i can fill it back up with the good stuff and it doesn't hurt it.
I think we have the 5 star tune finally perfected. Pull's like a **** mid and high range with a strong low end also. This was no boost launch whatsoever. Just foot off brake and go pedal pushed down. I didn't even want to try a 1500 launch which i usually do
