No need Jbrew, I just figured a battery was just a battery. As long as it started the car the altenator done the rest. Guess I need to do some reading on the subject.

Harsh winters, hot summers takes it's tole on any battery. That said, I've still gotten 5 years on average with the cheaper type battery. Your question is valid and an average one. I sortuh put my batteries thru hell. I've been wanting something more in that category for awhile now. The older you get the less you want to screw with things like this. If you truly know how to make things easier, without cheating (lol) - one tends to capitalize. IMO anyway.

BTW- There's really good battery threads here on the site. The guys that post in those threads are very good and know what they're talking about. There's definitely more to it than what I say here.

Oh yea, the alternator isn't there to charge the battery (although it will some), but it's job is to maintain the battery.

Good threads on this in the 2004+ forums.

My truck eats batteries like Tic Tac's and I'm on set number 3 since I bought it. The originals lasted 2 years, Optima batteries lasted 4 years, and I'm hoping to get at least 4 years out the Interstate batteries that I put in last fall. Oh yeah........the truck is also on alternator number 3.

When I brought my truck in for service a couple of month's ago my dealer put in a new battery for me at no charge...only a little over 2 yrs on the original. Tech said the original showed low...no argument from me!

$207 - I paid, hang on, I can't recall, okay, I left the receipt in the trunk lol. - $263, but I haven't turned in my old yet, - it's worth $15 I guess. Hope that's wrong and it's worth $50 instead.

Yea, from the knee cap down. I didn't look right away, couldn't actually, well, not until I felt it trickling into my boot. Oh well, no biggy, so, I was on a mission, - squish pause squish pause squish.... Didn't matter I was on a mission right!

But boy that squish effect echoed off of Sears polished floors, once I made it in there.. Heck wid it, on a mission....

From my experience with Interstates at Land Rover, they tend to last 3 years, and will start failing performace tests at 2yr mark. They do have a great warranty, that starts over with the replacement battery, and its usually 3yr free replacement, and prorated for up to 5yrs
