Exactly. I don't see where Boyd was any different than those OCC hacks.

He wasn't my favorite... but damn.... let the body cool a little before you start ragging on him for crying out loud.

Wow, just wow. You could at least let rigor set in before you start ripping on him. Regardless of how you feel it doesn't change the fact that his family is going through hell right now. I guess you don't understand that because you've never lost anyone you've cared about.

I wasn't his biggest fan either but give credit where it's due, he played a part in making the hotrod hobby mainstream.

that's sad. I liked his show/a lot of his work. A surprise to me, had no idea about any of this.

Barret and Jackson were marketing geniuses. They created an competitive environment for people with way too much money and egos to dump their money. I can never see why the winning bidder pays what they do. Lots of "Asshats" with big check books. I can only watch 10-15 minutes of the auction.

I figured that the odds were pretty slim that anyone in his family would be viewing my comments. I just have a lot of contempt for the people in the industry that have helped ruin the hobby for the little guy. Sons of bitches that contributed to the outrageous prices that muscle cars now command.

Listen here all you wealthy "collectors" I am coming for your trailer queens and I'm gonna kick a big *** dent in your POS!!! You want $85k for your '69 Z28? WHAM!!! Now I'll give you $23k or would you like me to squirt some brake fluid onto your paint next? Stinking backgammon playing fruitcakes don't need to be driving a man's car anyway they need to get their sorry asses down to the Toyota dealer and pick up a Camry.

They could be part of why they didn't just die out altogether too. Once apoun a time they were worth next to nothing... in the late 70's my dad got a red 1967 Chevelle SS 396, with 150k for $120, with faded paint and no rust because the guy just didn't want it anymore. At prices anything like that it wouldn't have been long until they were all beat beyond repair and junked. Now $5k might get you a really nice parts car, it is rediculous but they don't have the best survival rate and have been out of production for decades.

I didn't care for his show, the foreman was a jerk, and there just seemed to be alot of pointless drama mainly brought on by him, more so even than American Chopper. I really didn't like how they mainly hacked up perfectly restored cars and "customized" them, that probably bugged me the most.

You mentioned "admiring the people who build the cars in their own garages with limited funds and hard work". How do you think guys like Boyd Coddington got their start? He started building cars in his dad's garage at 13. He worked full time during the day and "tinkered" in his spare time. People liked what they were seeing and started asking him to build hotrods for them. Eventually he turned doing something he loved into a multi-million dollar business. That's the definition of the American dream isn't it?

As was already mentioned if it wasn't for guys like Boyd rebuilding the '50's and '60's cars and making them desirable, those cars would have likely been forgotten. They certainly wouldn't be worth what they are today.

boyd and foose build customs, not restored muscle cars, be pi$$ed at someone else.

if you hate billet rims, lowered stance or smooth as glass paint jobs, then yes be glad he is gone.

i think he was a good guy, dont buy into a tv show. he was around way to long and was reguarded as one of the best too long for him not to be the real deal. so much talent came from his shop...foose did

I'd like to see dr franko's "builds" I'm sure their not on the same level as boyd or foose. you also have to realize that boyd and foose really arnt car builders, they are designers. boyd an foose have not only mastered the art of car design, they also have the resources to make it become a reality. I sense a lot of jealousy coming from dr franko.... we can't all be rock stars overnight. fame and fortune like that takes sacrifice, talent, and hard work. everyone has to start somewhere. I guess dr franko just got dealt a bad hand... actually he probably just didn't play his cards right.

RIP Boyd
