I believe CenterLine which started in 1970 was also forged wheels.
I'm shure both facts are true but I also belive at that time the industry was getting away from steel rims to forged

Maybe you should read all of Gipraw's post. It explains a few advantages of billet over cast wheels and how the strength of billet allows for more variations in the design. Unless if you think every car in the world should run a set of steelies like the race cars do...

Cast aluminum wheels aren't the same as billet aluminum.

The point was that there is an alternative to billet that is perhaps even stronger and it is what the racers choose.

how did we get from street rods and hot rods to race cars? Furthermore, how does it matter to this discussion.

You have been saying that Boyd did nothing other than build half assed cars that he sold for 10 times their value.

I simply mentioned that you are wrong. and you still are.

Doesn't matter what wheels people choose for race cars. What matters is that Boyd was the first guy to do it. period. there are now 20 + companies selling hundreds of different billet wheels, and it all traces back to one guy that started it.

Lokar and all they manufacture .. it all traces back to one guy and his ideas, and ability to execute them to reality and how it inspired others.

Just because you don't want Boyd to be important, doesn't make it so.

Very well said. May I also add that Boyd was the first to also mass produce custom wheels. There were others making them but he was the first to create a one off design, then mass produce it for the public. His wheel business has grown to the point that even his competition uses them.
