It is against the law because there is a law against drinking under the age of 21. A person under the age of 21 is drinking, that is braking the above stated law. Why is that hard to understand???

What harm is being done? Maybe none...could turn into lots of harm. Is there any harm being done while speeding? Not at the time but it could. Not every law is there because committing the crime harms someone. It is there to prevent someone from being harmed with the eventual possible effects of the crime. The seemingly extreme punishment of revoking a license for a year is there to dissuade minors from drinking in the first place. I don't think it will be lost for a year on the first offense, but maybe a 2nd or 3rd. Granted, minors have to know the punishment first before it does any good, but...

It seems like Pat knows he did wrong, and maybe has learned a lesson. Luckily, he wasn't driving and no one was harmed. Those are the good things.

There was no parking spots, so i was driving a 78 Jeep CJ-7 and i decided to park on the grass. A cop busted us after we got out, and looked through the window's and spotted an un-opened 6-pack sticking out from under the seat. He asked the principal from my school if he wanted to handle it, or do you want us to, He said that he would handle it. He made us call our parent's, put none of them were home, but we did get a hold of his sister, and he told us to go home and that he wanted our parents to call him first thing Monday morning. I asked if i was kicked out of school again, and he said yes. I then lit up a cigerette and said "F" it and left.... Man they sure wouldn't release you on your own like that these days.... Good luck Pat, you will look back on this in the later years and laugh while you are telling your kids how bad you were...
Nothing like the good old days. No offense to anyone... but I feel as if people are making it tougher and tougher to live in a free society. There are soooo many laws, and it is way to easy to get in deep do-do these days, it really is NOT funny. Not to change the subject, but it is like that high school kid that tricked people into holding up a sign that said something profane... and he gets in a lot of trouble, makes radio and tv talk. What the heck this society coming down to? Do lawmakers, and other parts of government have nothing else to do with their feeble lives?! People want to sue this, sue that... sue monkeys, cats, and dogs. This world is becoming sicker and sicker everyday.

I know man. Every conversation I have with my Grandparents ends up being about how things have changed, for the worst.

I was eating up at Patti's with my Grandparents earlier and we saw on TV where some kids got into a fight at school and one of em was being charged with "Attempted Murder."

We fought all the time through school, whether it be over a girl or a spot on the football team, and we just got seperated or sent to detention. Now you can't even hit, or hell even think about hitting someone at school without being charged with trying to kill them.

like those animal rights people who are trying to make it so you can sue for an animal. like if you were driving along one day and someones cat hops out in front of your truck, you drill it, then get charged and have serve jail time for hitting a damn pet.....people are ridiculous.

and kids using child abuse against their parents....wtf?? how are people supposed to raise children if they can get sued and put in jail for punishing a child for doing something wrong?? pisses me off.

1. Society creates law; youth who consume alcohol are intentionally making a choice to disregard the rules of society when they choose to break the law.

2. The brain does not stop growing until a person reaches the age of 23 to 25. Use of alcohol inhibits the growth of the brain. I'm not going to debate why lawmakers chose 21 as the age that it becomes legal, I'm only going to state facts.

3. To quote the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration of the US Dept. of Health and Human Services:
Youth often is thought of as a time for trying new things, but trying alcohol at a young age can be riskier than you might think. More than two decades of research from the American Medical Association (AMA) shows that alcohol causes severe and possibly lasting brain damage in people under the age of 21. This is of great concern because children now try alcohol for the first time at the age of 12, and nearly 20 percent of 12- to 20-year-olds report binge drinking (having 4 to 5 drinks in a row).

Researchers compared the brains of 14- to 21-year-olds who drank alcohol with those who didn’t. Teens who drank had smaller hippocampi (the area deep in the brain that handles memory and learning), and they also had damage to part of the cerebral cortex, the prefrontal cortex (an area tucked behind the forehead that is used to make decisions and to reason). The AMA found that teens who used alcohol scored worse on vocabulary, visual-spatial tests (the ability to think in pictures and images), and memory tests. They also were more likely to perform poorly in school and suffer from social problems, depression, suicidal thoughts, and violence.

Alcohol can be harmful to people of any age, but it takes a greater toll on brain development in those under 21 than in any other age group. Findings show that adults would have to consume twice as many drinks to suffer the same damage as teens and that even some heavy drinking injures young brains.6 The AMA report points out that, no matter what many people might think, youth do not tolerate the effects of alcohol better than adults.
4. Additionally, from SAMHSA:
* In 1997, 21 percent of the young drivers 15 to 20 years old who were killed in crashes were intoxicated. For young drivers, alcohol involvement is higher among males than among females. In 1997, 25 percent of the young male drivers involved in fatal crashes had been drinking at the time of the crash, compared with 12 percent of the young female drivers involved in fatal crashes.

* According to national data, drowning is the leading cause of injury-related death among adolescents and young adults. Factors contributing to youth drowning include alcohol which can severely affect a swimmer’s coordination and judgment. Forty to 50 percent of young males who drown were drinking when they died, and an equal percentage of all diving accidents are alcohol related.

* Approximately 240,000 to 360,000 of the nation’s 12 million current undergraduates will ultimately die from alcohol-related causes.
and this barely scratches the research that proves what harm is being done.

Damn i have to start checking F150online on the weekends too. I missed some good stuff here !

1. Is drinking under 21 illegal?... Yes, but i probably would have done it anyway myself. Im glad you werent driving because that shows your responsible enough to drink and not drive. Just make sure the other person isnt either.

2. They are F**ing with you buddy and no way in hell will a license suspension stick. You will probably just be fined.

In an un-related incident my brother ran away from the cops on his motorcycle (dumbass i know) and got caught. They took him to court for evading arrest (he ran because he thought he could on his bike), but the cop hit him with his car and did not call an ambulance.

He said something funny that day that stuck in my mind.

" Lawyers are like hookers. You pick the best one you can find and they get you off. Then they ask for your money."

Take this as a lesson and if your going to drink only do it at home responsibly or drink at a party and sleep over. Dont set yourself up to get caught.

I know, right.

I find it amazing how people can walk through life and NOT pay attention to what goes on around them. How do they survive? Luck?
