I guess if you aren't paying for food, housing, power, water, school, medical insurance, cell phone, etc that makes it a little easier, but still.

Just because you don't know how to do it doesn't mean it cant be done.

I know I surely couldn't do it at 19 and I was in the military for over a year at that point. I also know what you mean about getting a loan at that age because I tried to get a loan for a new car and all they would loan me was $11k and I had to come up with the balance to get the car.

It's nice to read though how some of these kids are working their tails off to afford a very nice truck and are proud of their accomplishments. They should be, their hard work is paying off for them. Sure alot of them are still living at home and all of their money can go into a truck vice having to pay for all those things mentioned above, but that doesn't mean they should feel any less deserving or proud of what they have.

Am I jealous of some of the trucks being sported by these high schoolers? Heck yeah some of them have some sweet rides, but I do to and even if it took me until I was in my 30's to get mine vice having one while still in school that doesn't keep me from appreciating their work and their trucks.

I can't believe how many parents buy their kids brand new trucks like i have seen in the last 20 pages....Call me jealous or Old School...but i would never get my kid a brand new $30,000 truck to drive around to high school in. I want my kids to be safe and have a reliabe vehicle, but also want to let them know stuff 'aint free. I would help on payments, but not just outright give a brand new vehicle to a teenager.

I'm 19 and I did it. Its not that hard, works the same way if your 19 or 50, you get a job, save up some money, add up what you can afford to spend, make a down payment, finance whats left to pay on a vehicle and make your payments. I got out of high school, went and got a good job, worked hard for six months till I had $25000 saved up, went to a dealer, picked a truck, put half my savings down and went through Ford Credit for the rest. Now I keep working hard so I can buy mods, gas, insurance, all the fun and joy that comes with owning a vehicle. Sure I don't pay rent or utilities, but that is because work puts me up with a place to live free of charge. If I had to pay for a place to live I'd do it and it wouldn't make my situation a whole lot worse cause I made sure I bought a truck I could afford. As far as getting credit approval that wasn't to hard, Ford has a good program for first time credit buyers, they put a few extra restrictions on what you can do as far as payments and insurance, but they give you a chance to prove yourself. It also helps to have a big down payment.

Its not to hard to tell when most people post up their age with a pic of their truck, not to mention the thread is about people in high school

yeah your exactly spot on with everything, i still live at home and plan on stayin here till i get outa school and get a job and most likely for a bit after that too. im lucky, only kid in the house right now so i dont have to pay insurance but fuel and anything else is all me. sure it would be hard to pay for it, but im just saying that it can be done. but ive also worked for the same contractor for three years now, most kids around here work fast food or something of the like (nothing wrong with that, i just got lucky on finding the job i have) but thats also exactly why i dont wanna do it. some kids do and thats great but its not for me. i like putting money in my savings account, not drawing from it till its gone. spending 30k on a new truck isnt something i can justify right now or for anything my age or younger but hey if they want to then so be it. and your also right, only way i could ever get financed would be with my mother as a co-signer. i was actually lookin at a 2005 f150 but then i sat back to think that if i get in the union in three years like i hope i can buy a new vehicle then. basically all im rambling about is that in the right circumstances it can be done but should it be? i dont think so

I think it should be, I work hard for my money, I can afford it, I like my truck, I think I deserved to buy it. Thats just my opinion.

Yeah, I hear were you are coming from, I was in your shoes before I got this job. I had a good job, better then most high schoolers, but not enough to be getting a loan. I bought my first truck cash, and it was 1993, I got the cheapest insurance possible and didn't buy any extensive mods. Sometimes its wise to get a new one, sometimes its wise to buy something cash and own it.

Personally, I understand how easy it is to get jealous of young kids who seem to have everything given to them. I'm 44 now and all I can say now is "all the power to them". When I see some young kid with a brand new car or truck, usually the first thing I think is "must be nice". I know if I was that kid, I'd be thinking, "this is nice"! All you can do is hope that the ones who are given these things appreciate them. I'd like to think most of them do. Of course there are probably plenty of them that don't, but why waste time worrying about them anyway. People like that will get a dose of reality soon enough. These days its so easy to hate the rich (and famous), mainly because TV throws it in our faces 24/7. If some kid drives up next to me with his decked out 08 F150, I'd rather give him a thumbs up rather than the "spoiled rich kid look". Its our attitudes that make the world a much nicer place.
