I am looking for a chip that improves power and mpg for a good price? I don't know to much about chips and stuff. I would get a programmer but I believe they cost a lot.

chips, programmers, tuners... all the same thing. I have an edge and like it a lot, but id suggest that you get a gryphon which is basically an edge that can be custom programmed. Chips are one of those things on trucks where you get what you pay for, not really a cheap way around it. plus if you get a good one then it will quickly pay for itself in gas

Not to confuse anyone, but I had a "chip" on my grand am that plugged into the IAT sensor, and then I could had still plugged a tuner into the OBD port.

The "chip" fooled the sensor by telling the PCM the air coming in was cold, it was little more than a resistor, and changing the resistance gave different temp readings, that then had the PCM dump more fuel into the engine.

A tuner can do many, many more things, shift points, WOT, Rev limiter, speed limiter and so on.

See I thought a chip was plug and go and a tuner/programmer was plug and adjust until you get what you want.

I guess its personal, I would call a chip some thing that plugs into the IAT sensor and sends a separate reading without the sensor really being plugged in.

A tuner would be like the PHP gryphon or the Edge.

I do not think the edge is able to be adjusted but i would still call it a tuner, and not a chip.

I always thought of a chip as a physical chip like this, I DO NOT APPROVE THIS PRODUCT!

but i would think of that as a chip and this is a tuner,

There ARE "chips" that plug in to your PCM, but not any for the 04-09 model 150's is my understanding. There are some made for the pre-04 models though, and they are "tune on the fly" devices. Diesels also use this kind of chip.

These chips are not the cheap things you see advertised on ebay. They actually do change the tune in your vehicle. The Phoenix multi-position chip is such a device and is a worthwhile investment if it works on your model year and you don't need some of the other features like datalogging that the programmers provide.

If you're talking about a chip for your 1998 F-150, yes, it's available. We sell programmers AND a chip for the 1998 F-150. You can get more information here: PHP Phoenix Chip Feel free to give us a shout if you have any questions.

You may also want to contact Justin at VMP Tuning and/or Mike at Troyer Performance as well. I didn't see a chip on either of their websites, but they are well-known for their gasser tuning, so it couldn't hurt to check!
