After a lot of internal debating, I decided to not get the extended warrenty on my new F250 PSD CC. I do have one on my F150 and will be transferring it over to the next owner (part of it's selling price) but otherwise it's just been a piece of paper in the glove box!!! My new truck is a lot more expensive and way more expensive to fix if something breaks after the ford warrenty is out, But, seeing as my husband is a diesel mechanic, I thought it would be better (and cheaper) to just keep him happy instead

If your house is mortgaged, you're obligated to have homeowner's insurance just as you are to carry comprehensive and collision if your vehicle is financed. It's totally up to the individual to purchase an extended warranty.

Right Fordman!
As I mentioned earlier, my 3/36 will expire by February, at this rate. (I love to drive, and I am not always babying my truck). I feel good about having ESP.

I think that this individual is trying to "egg on" Fordman...or others...
Recommend that we simply ignore that particular post, no sound evidence is provided to substantiate the claim that "Fordman" is a loser....

I also frown on ESPs. If you are really worried about your vehcile failing, then 'self insure'. Take the price of the ESP and invest it. Odds are by the time you are ready to get rid of the truck, you will still have most the money in the bank. Do this for 2 or 3 vehicle purchases in a row over a decade, and you will have a pot of money that can cover all but the most catastrophic failure. If you buy reliable vehicles like F150's, the odds are really in you favor by just keeping a savings account and not buying an ESP.
Excellent idea. But instead of a savings account, how bout' investing that money in Ford stock?

I agree with Ford man, ESP's are a waste of money for me. They might not be for everyone else. You have to think of it as insurance. Ford definately makes money on the plan, so as a whole the plan favors Ford. Sort of like my house insurance. I 'throw away' $300 a year and have never had a claim. If my house ever burned down I'd be glad I had insurance, because I couldn't afford to replace it. Could I afford to fix my truck? Yes. Do I have a spare vehicle? Yes. Am I hard on my truck? No. Do I drive a lot of miles? No. Is it well maintained and in the garage? Yes. Do I let my wife drive it? NO NO NO! It's worth it for me to gamble and not take the ESP. It all comes down to risk and each individual's tollerance. If you are risk adverse the ESP might be for you.
Heck, If we weren't a sue happy society, (I hate lawyers!) I probably wouldn't even have car insurance. I know I've paid in a lot more than I've claimed. On the other hand, I'm sure there are a lot of people who have claimed a lot more than they have paid. A good deal for some and not for others. The whole idea is to spread the risk, but as a whole it is a loser for the consumer. This is because the company makes profits and pays for salaries, administration expenses, buildings, etc. from the premium.
