Im in the middle of mine as well. I took a different aproach. I did not gut the cig lighter and the only thing I had to cut was the orange part off of the housing. I stuck the button in just far enough to when the lighter is pressed the coils of it press the button. It makes it a bit easier to fabricate and requires less cutting. The wiring up is just the same.

This is the part that you stick the actual lighter in. There used to be a orange connector on the back of this. I cut it off with a hacksaw and drilled the hole out big enough to stick the button through.

Here you can see the lighter actually in the piece. You can see that I left the lighter in tact completely.

I then installed the push button far enough back so that the lighter can be placed in place. But when you actually push the lighter in it depresses the button down. So it looks just like a regular sig lighter. You can even take it out and show people that it is just a normal lighter

Shows it inside the plug.

I used some wireties on the shaft of the starter to make sure that it didnt back off. I just used to included hardware to make it tight.

I did not wire it up tonight because it got dark. Tomorrow I will accomplish that tast including the squirt mod (valet switch) and will get pics of that as well.

Thanks again OP.

And I dont see why the wires would heat up any more than they already do now.

Sounds like a plan. In between work and my english final today Im gonna try to wire it up the rest of the way. I'll get pics of that too, well at least try, lol. I think im gonna try to find a cig lighter out of a wrecked truck now, lol. I'm gonna miss that extra powerpoint. And since the connector is already back there im just gonna drill a hole in between my pushbutton and backup sensors.

your plan with leaving the lighter in one piece sounds cool, but doesnt the little stay pushed in when you press it? or will the switch behind the dash have enough push to make it come back out?

Nope when you cut the end off and drill it out it removes the piece that would catch it. So it just pushes in and comes right back out. Its neat because I can pull out the lighter and be like its just a cig lighter, lol.

I got it installed including the switch. Works great. My remote start doesnt work unless the switch is flipped to allow the key to work though. Other than that there were not any problems. Spliced and taped everything up. My wires are ultra scary because I have an elaborate alarm system down there as well. But the instructions were the same non the less.

Had it for a few days now. Works amazing and confuses the hell out of people. Lol. Ive been telling people to go to autozone or an auto parts store and as for a cig lighter that starts your car. Haha.
