PTM Mirrors

I'm thinking about PTM mirrors for my truck, but have a couple of questions.

Is there a place you can actually buy them or is this a project that's best DIY?

What kind of shopping list would I need to complete myself?

How involved of a project is this and are there any step by step directions out there? I did a search, but came up empty.

Thanks in advance.

I'm pretty sure you cannot purchase an entirely painted mirror, only the caps. I had a body shop paint my entire mirrors and they turned out great. I prefer the whole thing painted because it stands out more. I'm not sure what kind of prep was needed to paint them but I'm sure it was a good bit.

If you live in Florida let me know and I'll give you the contact info to the shop that did it.

This may just work out for me. I'm taking my truck in tomorrow to have the bed painted (for free ) so I may inquire if the guy there can paint the mirrors for me as well. The guy there at the shop has been really helpful and he did a great job at matching everything that was replaced after my accident.

Shop wanted $300 to paint both mirrors. I just made a deal with them and told them not to paint the bed (plan is to eventually have it lined anyways) and just do the mirrors for free instead. I'll post up some pics when I pick up the truck either later today or tomorrow morning.

Could have done it yourself for a much lower price and self gratification

Mirrors are getting PTM for free.

Just not getting the bed painted now. That's ok though because it has a cover on it anyways and it's not like it's too bad anyways. When the truck was in the shop originally they put the damaged parts in the bed and put a couple scratches in it so they were going to paint it for me.

are they just painting them or are they goin to do it right and sand them? I did my own mirror caps, sanded them, primed them, then had them professionally painted and cleared for 25 each.

I'd make sure they sand them first. I have seen plastics where they just shoot them, not too impressive, it looks better then stock, but still not all that great. I have all my plastic PTM and it was a pain on the *** to prep everything. You can look in my gallery, i personally think it is worth the time (or money of your paying to get it done) to take the extra steps and do it right.

The guy said that he would be removing them and sanding them down. After that they'll get primed, painted and cleared. He seemed to know what he was talking about and sounded like he was going to do a good job because he said "you could just paint right over them, but then you'll have the texture and it won't look as good." I should be getting the truck back sometime soon so I'll be posting up the pics when I do.

Your mirrors look great and make me glad that I decided to go this route. Of course I'll really know when I pick up my truck later today.

Alright the mirrors are done and the truck is all detailed. Here's a few pics of the completed PTM mirrors.

Head on

Driver's Side

Passenger Side

I think they came out great and match the truck perfectly. With the LT handles I think the PTM mirrors actually flow better with the look of the truck compared to stock. Let me know what you guys think.

I think it looks great! Now your going to start noticing other parts you want PTM too, like the little plastic piece on the antenna, and the cowl around the wipers for example.
