Geez....this subject has brought out some teeth. Bottom line is, don't put on the strobes or flashers unless you have a legit reason to. Also check state laws about having them. After that, mount the ones needed for your particular line of work and mount and display them properly.

I do get called out once in a while for emergencies and I have to have them, but I am held to a certain color combo. Mounting strobes and flashers without reason is like Steven Seagal acting, don't make any sense.

I know this thread is ridiculously old, but i was just wondring. I am in rookie school for VFD right now, and we have a strict one-year probation period, but after the period i am able to mount lights, strobes, and siren. but they have to be authorized and a permit displayed. what is the process for getting this permit and is it expensive to get? i live in georgia

Nate, that is best left asking your Cheif. Sounds like GA is a bit more strict than Fla. We're supposed to have white/red and siren, but I have all three and a siren. Cops around here dont care much and they know whos VFD and not. A few of our Sheriff officers are VFD members as well

yeah. i live in a really small town and the VFD is really close with the police department. i was just wondering if i needed to go to the sheriff's office to get the permit or if it was issued at the fire station. but if ya'll don't know, its fine. ill ask the chief tomorrow.

I'm going to take a shot in the dark and say the police furnish it. It must be a problem up there if they have had to resort to permits to "weed out" the troublemakers. I've had a few cops eye me a few times running to a call, but I also display my stations emblem on my back window.

Some many people so many opinions. I got my whelen strobes on ebay for about $100 and only use them when I take my truck to the 4x4 jamboree and other car shows. Great attention getter while at the shows and even my wife who told me I was dumb for getting them, she even likes them now. Just use them at shows and not on the streets

I've been looking to get a strobe kit, but from the ones I'm seeing, they are going quick for $200+. Our county is about to auction off some of their older P71's, so I'm going to try and see if I cant get an old kit off one of them for cheap.

Nate, in Georgia emegency lighting permits go through the state Department of Public Safety. Must be signed by chief of the department and notarized. Here is a link: http://www.ask.com/bar?q=georgia+red...7990%2C00.html

Just make sure you have a real reason to need them. Where abouts in Georgia are you?

That is a horrible idea. I dont know why you would embaress people like that and make people think you are a LEO.

Anyways, I have strobes too. What I think is great is GTRiders outlook on life. He is better than everyone else and everyone else is completely retarted and unable to make logical decisions. And you cant have any fake reasons to have strobe lights, just real ones.

GTRider: Why dont you yell at ford for making the highbeam switch flash the high beams. Everyone that has one will drive around embarasing LEO and pulling people over. So you can honestly tell me that you have never used your strobes while parked on the side of the road changing a tire, pulling out a friend, anything not involving a fire call.

I want to know how many cases of people getting pulled over for misusing strobes...if GTR is right then everyone that has them on his truck breaking the law and should die.

One officer here in town actually complimented me on my install the other day. The constables drive f150s and he asked me how I did my tail lights so he can install some in the trucks.

You need to just **** and get the hell out. Your ****y attitude is only making you look more and more like an immature tool. Your arguement is always "Well they have strobes so i can too!!!" I was really hoping you would stay the hell out this time but no. You had to run in here and act like you have any idea WTF you're talking about. The last thing this world needs is you out on the streets with strobes playing ricky rescuse. You're not helping anyone, leave that to the professionals. You're only endangering the lives of other people. Grow up.

I live in Milledgeville right now. I am starting rookie school this week and after that I will be running calls for Baldwin County Fire and Rescue. The lights would only be used to run calls, as many of my friends have the same setup and are volunteer firefighters as well. Thank you for a straight answer though.

Thats real mature...

If you have a good reasoning for getting mad at me then great, but I have done nothing wrong. You are the kind of person that ****s with the world. A person that stereotypes. Grow the **** up and get over it.

My arguement has never been "Well they have strobes so i can too!!!". I dont see why everytime even if I just answer a question someone has about strobes you jump my case like I know absolutly nothing.

And I do know what im talking about. If you ask me about the laws on strobes, install, operation, and quality I can probably answer many of them. I have done many installs on trucks for emergecy lighting (my dads company/ VFD). I havnt and wont do any installs on peoples cars that dont have reasoning for them. I know i wont abuse them, but can speak for other people. The guy that stated it would be cool to use to scare his friends, flame him. I did nothing wrong and dont plan on doing anything wrong.

Then what is your argument? Why do you need them? Lets hear it.

So you're certified to install emergency lighting systems on state response vehicles? It would be a shame if they lost there license for having an unqualified kid doing installs. Not to mention the law suits that would fall on them and possibly you, for not being able to respond due to no lights. You're putting that entire department and the people they protect at risk. Unless you're just bull****ting... Which is most likely the case
